Hello everyone,

I drive a Hyundai Elantra MD 2014 with 375,800 km (233,600 miles) on the odometer. I use Red Line D6 ATF in the transmission. Recently, I added 10 ounces of Lubegard Red after draining the same amount of transmission fluid.

The reason I added it is because I’ve been experiencing a whining noise, a slight whistling during gear shifts, and occasional delay in engagement.

The recommended dosage for Lubegard Red is 1 ounce per quart, and since my transmission holds 7.3 liters (~7.7 quarts), I’ve added about 1.3 oz per quart, which is slightly above the recommended ratio.

My questions:

  1. Is Lubegard Red incompatible with Red Line D6?
  2. Could this overdose damage the transmission? I’ve read some posts here saying additives aren’t needed with high-quality fluids like Red Line.
  3. Do I need to do a drain & fill to restore balance or reduce the additive ratio?

Any insights or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks again!

Just wondering — how soon did you notice an improvement after adding Lubegard Red? Was it immediate or did it take some time?

Won't hurt anything at all! It may be true that it could be "unnecessary" but I add it to any fluid I use; always with improvement.

As mentioned above, usually any effect noticed may take some cycling of the fluid.

I have never used it in attempt to fix anything, but as a preventative thing. My transmission guy recommended it so I've used it, especially in my trucks.

IF you have sticking valve body components due to varnish, it can take a while for the esters to clean them up enough to be noticeable.

Thank you for your valuable and informative insights.

I chose to add this combination due to harsh driving conditions. The transmission fluid temperature would reach 97–102°C (207–216°F), with 102°C (216°F) being the peak without Lubegard. At that point, the temperature struggled to decrease, and I was experiencing hesitation between 4th and 5th gear, sometimes with delayed shifts.

After adding Lubegard, the temperature now reaches 100°C (212°F), occasionally 101°C (214°F), but it quickly returns to 100°C or drops further when the load is reduced.

Ambient temperatures here range from 38°C to 48°C (100°F to 118°F), and I regularly drive on highways.

I’ve currently driven 890 km (about 454 miles) on this blend.
