I have been doing short duration all out runs and afterwards for some reason I like to cool
down for the next spurt with slow backward pedaling. Weird? Anyone else???

I do my daily 45 min rides and play with the dog to wind down, gonna try the backward pedaling. ;)

I dont do stationary bikes but in a similar vein when we used to backpack the mountains I found that after a steep climb it really helped to walk the last bit of rise backwards if it was safe. It relieved the burning in the muscles.

Peddling backwards is like seeing the joggers that jog backwards to say they are working different muscles? Hmm not sure the human body was designed for that kind of physical constant activity? LOL

If I do a burn ride I will do a light cruise around the block to cool down. If I am out on a trail and riding hard I will drink a combination of a little pedilite and water instead of just water. For me this gives me a second energy spurt. Not for everybody though. Those that SCUBA will understand that.

Nothing scientific but I just naturally do that without thinking and it comes easy. Not really sure the bike was designed for that??? Oh well.

Back in Boy Scouts, we were taught to cool down after a long hike with legs at least elevated or slowly walking. Blood should be kept moving during cool down. If not your legs can stiffen up from accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle.

Forget the legs, I would bust my ass!
