2004 TSX, new short block recently (ie: basically new engine).

Climate: Ottawa, Ontario. Summers are warm and very nice. Winters can be cold although getting below 0*F is very rare.

Driving style: Somewhat-spirited although I generally go for fuel savings over fun. Some high-RPM blasts not out of the question though, maybe redline once every few days.

Trip lengths: Generally 10-25km (6-15 miles), mixed 50/50 city/highway.

Oil / Filter: Esso XD-3 0W-30 synthetic. Filter: Napa Gold (Wix). No additives.

Suggestions for OCI lengths?? Thanks.

Thanks.

I'd send away for a UOA but I'm in Canada and IIRC, it's pricey to get done, when most times a somewhat-conservative OCI will cover my *** fairly well.

Any other opinions for OCI length? I was thinking 10K km (6K miles) might be worth trying, since the XD-3 is supposedly a fairly long-lasting oil, coupled with a good filter (Napa Gold).

What happened to the old short block? What does the owner's manual recommend for this engine?

See my other thread for what happened to the old block.

As for manufacturer's recommendation, they "recommend" severe maintanance schedule for all of canada, but that's on dino oil. Also, in Ottawa, I don't believe I should automatically fall into the severe schedule when I'm only 40 minutes drive from NY state. They say 8k km oil changes on dino oil is recommended for severe, 16k km for regular. Everything about my car falls into the "normal" schedule aside from my location being 40 minutes north of the border, which is why I'm asking for educated responses from oil experts, and not blanket statements from Honda/Acura based purely on my coordinates on this globe.
