The meek will inherit the earth. This blower sounds like the meekest of them all.

If the pull rope breaks, you can sometimes put an electric drill on the flywheel with appropriate adapters. For briggses I used to use a 7/8 12 point socket on 3/8" square to drill shank gizmo; the 12 points fit the squarish rope starter gizmo connection well. Then I could crank it up real fast, faster than the pull rope even. Cleared some old gunk out of "whatever" after a lengthy storage and it ran.

I tried that when a weedwacker had some unknown failure and no longer ran. I melted the drill. Though, it probably had something to do with the fact that it was a 6V cordless drill hooked up to a 12V car battery.

That's weird, I've always heard of leaving the starter at 6V when doing 6V->12V conversions, that way it cranks over and starts faster.

Hope you all stay safe, we've got around 2 or 3 inches on the ground from yesterday, roads are a little slick in places but nothing serious.

Just had to drive somewhere on lunch. WOW IS IT SLIPPERY! Usually the light powdery snow is not that slippery. I was struggling with the Focus (studded snow tires) to get moving or stopping. Watching people take off from stoplights was entertaining, though.

It was slippery for us when the snow started on New Years eve as well. We are at 16.7" for my neighborhood as of 8 a.m. this morning. The -9F tonight will be tough. With wind chill it is supposed to get to -23F.

I live on a hill. its usually plowed and salted due to the elementary school .5 miles away.

They were slacking today. so far about 15 cars stuck within 50ft of my house. I took the snowblower out and took out the giant sludge ridge that was getting them all stuck.
(where the plow guy plowed it to the right side of the lane instead of off the road)

still slippery but as long as they have abit of momentium they make it now(or use the left lane)

Edit: they just plowed and salted it finally.

The temperature has been steadily dropping here, it's down to 8 or 9 now. Too cold for the salt to work, and with the clouds, the light will never hit the salt anyway.

It's cold out there. It's 7 here in Albany, with a windchill of -6. Forecast is 12-18" supposedly, and the low for tonight is -2 with a windchill of -30. Hooray for winter!

Amen. I am an addict when it comes to wood heat. I am so far gone that the boys got me a type-K thermocouple setup and a reader for Christmas. I had been getting by with probes, surface thermometers, and an IR thermometer on the wood stove. Now I can drill in and read temperature downstream of the cat with the 2200F probe. Nirvana. Inside the flame, the temperature measures 1200F. When running a hot bed of coals, it is hotter at the top of the firebox than near the coals. That has me stumped. Need to take those again when I am not in my cups.

Also, wrt cars, I was thinking of the oil sump, transmission, and other engine parts. Oh man! It is going to be a fun winter.

-7'F here at sunset.

Has been nasty cold all week.

Roads have a mysterious "black marbled" ice. Wife calls it "washboard ice". Gets under the snow. Just gets you loose enough to slide your car four inches and pucker up. Too cold for salt to work, and now the cold is "soaked into" the pavement. Seems to be a by product of endless tire tracks molecularly converting snow into ice with pressure and small amounts of resultant heat.

Used to have an 8 hp "mite-e-lite" generator that pull started just fine at 10'F with straight 30 oil. And, of course, it ran right up to full governed speed. Suspect 10w30 will work just fine.

We received about 6" of snow last night through today, but its hard to tell since it is so windy. Supposedly with the wind it feels like -15, but who really knows. I imagine the system we had is the same one you're in for. As stated be prepared for some non stop snow.. But you seem well prepared.

Bad weather sure is fun though. I plowed our drive out plus the neighbors with a .25 mile lane. A heated cab with a Toby Keith CD sure makes it nice.

First day in a week that I felt well enough to be outside. Poor wife had to do all the shoveling though. Last I looked it was 8F, and still spitting snow; I think we got about 6" but it's all light fluffy stuff.

I will definitely be getting a wood stove when I get a house. That or a pellett stove.

OK, let's see.
I think I'm ready for the next blizzard.
Peanut butter - check.
Ritz crackers - check.
Oranges and tangerines - check.
Summer sausage, smoked - check.
Gas for snowblower and generator - check.
Bananas - check.
Armstrong snowblower (Shovel) in case snowblower doesn't start - check.
Twister Game in case momma gets bored - check.
Radio batteries - check.
Charged Marine batteries for Ham radios - check.

Just did some more snowblowing with Ole' Yeller (Poulan Snowblower) and had to come back into the house twice to get the feeling back into my finger tips. Temp is -3F here without wind chill. Wind is blowing up to 20 mph.

When is winter goin' to REALLY get here?

We're slated for 5 - 8 or 6 - 10 tonight in CT depending on who you ask. I'm ready, Jeep is sitting on good snows and there's plenty of food and such in the house.

My 36" Airens is ready to go. With a backup old 28" and Bobcat 843.

Generator(s) ready also.

Most important, an ample supply of Diet Pepsi.

Same storm is due to hit here( has been snowing here since 6AM and is supposed to go until about noon tomorrow ). It is so cold it is just fluffy stuff so even a foot isn't too bad. My snowblower is all set and ready to go out in the morning and clean up the mess.

I have a generator ready to go as well but dread needing it. Temps are supposed to be below zero and with wind chills reaching -25 to -30 below. That makes starting the generator a bear.

Unfortunately that is just the 1st wave. We are going to get it again overnight and into tomorrow. Probably match what we got already.

propane emergency heater - check.
windup radio/LED light - check
full tank o' gas, both vehicles - check.

5L newcastle keg - check

was there something else?

Thanks, just finally getting to the point where I can stomach watching the weather too. Wife thought it was about done and over with too. Anyhow, as you said, it's so cold that it's light and fluffy, so no worries.

We've had a mere five inches or so and we'll be around zero or a little below tomorrow morning.
I saw a number of ditched cars on the way to work this morning, by which point we'd had maybe three inches.
I guess people forget from one winter to the next that you can't drive on a slick road as you would on a dry one, or maybe their tires just aren't the same as they were last winter after another year of wear.
For that matter, some tires labeled as all season really aren't, even with plenty of tread depth.
We had one guy who had his Avalon stuck in the parking lot at work. This really wasn't enough snow to get stuck with any car.
He had some no-name all seasons with plenty of tread that just weren't much good.

That is why I haven't bothered with the 5-6" we have now. I know more is coming. It is all fluff and no rain or sleet or anything to mix with it and make it a mess so I will do it all at once in the AM.
