Read label carefully Rotella T5 0W40

So what weight oil is it? 5W-40 or 0W-40? Your headline reads 05W-40 but you reference 0W-40 in your message.

If it's 0W-40 it meets SJ only. Not SM or SL. Good for vehicles in the late 1990's and early 2000.

Headline says Rotella T5 0W-40, topic says 0W-40 and attached sales sheet says 0W-40. It is possible that this oil was not certified for any API S classifications, just the diesel specs listed in the first post. Shell does make diesel only oils.

Just going by what the OP said in his first post.

To the OP: Go back and read that label again to see if it also says API SJ on the back of it, or better, take a pic and post it.

It says "API SJ" right in that data sheet that he linked to.

I think his point was that these are not recent classifications.

In fairness to SOPUS, lots of oils aren't the "latest specs." Some of us neither want nor need the latest specs. There is a market for older type oils. Always read the label. The only thing I fault SOPUS for is that the T5 at my retail location costs more than the T6! If they're just targeting a small niche, I suppose that's the way it goes.

T5 0w40 contains massive amounts of ZDDP compared to T6 5w40. Being 0w40 it might also have different basestocks?

I believe you're right. For what it's worth, I think the T5 is marketed as a semi-synthetic, where the T6 is marketed as fully synthetic.

I like the T5 product. I just don't like the price. Maybe I'll have to suck it up and try it anyways one of these days. It should be darn near perfect for my old F-150, and the 0w would be nice for the winter, when I plan on using it the most.

While it has the T5 (previously SB) moniker, I don't think it's a blend like the other T5/SB Rotellas. They use the "synthetic technology base oils" verbiage, which sounds like Group III to me.

I too would like to try it, along with PetroCanada 0w40 and Delvac 1 ESP 0w40.

I just don't drive enough, nor have a fleet to maintain where I could try all these different oils.

Yup. T5 should be a Blue Jug, Semi Synthetic. T6 is full, and "T" is the White one.

Ive been reading up on this HDEO. So there is a 0W-40 T5 now? Good stuff.

Its either Rotella T, T5, or the Delo 400. If T5 has extra ZDDP, thats got to be good for some engines.

Same way Redline has a lot of Moly.

Man, i dont know what to do.

You got the blue and white mixed up. Blue is the "full synthetic".

T5 0w40 is Canada only as far as I know. (just like the previous Rotella T SB 0w40)

You may be right. As far as I recall, there are some differences between some of the offerings in Canada and the United States.

With respect to experimentation, I agree. I wouldn't mind trying a few of the Petro Canada brands. I haven't tried Delvac 1 ESP 0w-40, just the 5w-40. The T5 is certainly under consideration for my old truck, or some of the SL rated RPs, or some of the HM M1s, I don't know. Too many oils and not enough miles.

There was a time when my personal vehicle didn't turn a wheel for six weeks. I was still obsessed with oil.

I have a poor quality photo of the back of one of the jugs taken with my phone. I've circled the API spec on the back but it is really hard to read.

As Johnny suggested, my only intention was to make others aware that this oil should not be used in any vehicle calling for SL or CH or higher. I use SOPUS products and have for years.

My neighbour bought 4 jugs of this for an oil change on his '08 Duramax. He had no idea what API specs meant. I told him it did not meet the warranty requirements for his engine.

BTW, this stuff retails up here for Can $33.99 for 4 litres.
