Um, ok. Probably the heaviest toad I've seen. And this was on an E450 chassis. I didn't see any PSD badging, so likely a gasser (I'm guessing 3V V10 - puke!!).

This has to be a miserable drive in the mountains and I have to wonder if he's not exceeding GCVWR he's probably exceeding max tow rating given the weight of the upfitter stuff

And actually I don't think the E series ever got the 3V. Wow, if it's a 2V that's really gotta suck.

Can you even flat tow one of these pickups without removing the drive lines?
Without the vacuum hubs seeing a vacuum, it’s spinning all the bits on both ends. My electronic T-case selector in the regular 150 does not allow me to select Neutral between low and high ranges, either.

I think the E450 would be fine even with a 2v V10 with the 5r110 and 4:56 gears, which is probably what it has. Towing an F150 4 wheels down...doh. get it on a car hauler and be done with it. 7,000lbs would be fine. The NA motor would be slow in the mountains but so would a 6L Chevy.

incorrect there is a procedure outlined in the manual that allow flat towing of all 4x4 f150s. I am not sure about 2wd, that may require driveshaft removal.

Ok, so there IS a way to reach t-case neutral, though it is not with the knob.

Seen several smaller Mercedes RVs pulling Gladiators and Unlimited Jeeps on the last trip. No way those were rated to pull that much weight, or maybe they were right in the line. I wanted to ask them how it was going. I bet hills were slow.

if you are staying gone long enough to need a separate vehicle, you're probably not in a hurry to get anywhere.

We have 27 ft Coach House and it has the full Banks power kit including full long tube headers and reprogrammed PCM. Hauls it around quite well and gets between 11 and 14.5MPG. I am satisfied. E450 with 6.8 V10

I think it would do fine unless you expect it to run up 8% grades at 80mph hauling 8,000lbs at 10,000 feet. That's why God invented 500hp turbo diesel F450 pickups my friend.

As long as you pull over on the passes when vehicles build up behind you. Just because Joe Retiree doesn't mind pulling (and descending) Coal Bank at 15mph doesn't mean the twenty cars behind him should have to.

Very cool! Next time you're around Silverton, Ouray and Lake City with a Raptor behind you, let me know. I can walk beside you as you drive and we can chat. Don't worry, I'll wait when I get ahead of you ;)

Spin the V10, it will pull. 5,000rpms is nothing for it. You have to adjust your expectations.
No. It won't pull hills like my diesel trucks will. Will it get me to the top, sure. Again, if you want to run 80mph up an 8% grade pulling 8,000lbs at 10,000' get the Powerstroke if you like Ford. My F450 more than likely would never leave 8th and I'd have 60% pedal left.

I pull a Ram 1500 Crew Cab with a Gold Wing in the bed behind my 32' Gas Class A, truck with bike is about 7200 lbs. I'm about 1000 under GCWR. While I don't live in the Rockies it pulls hills ok not great but ok.

Hey D60, I know about Silverton and Ouray. Been there many times in my 86 VW Westfalia. Had an Uncle and Aunt that had a home there in Silverton that we visited each summer. Sometimes I drove my 76 Dodge B200 camper. That was a great place to visit and Mad Mama'S pies were great too.
