I went to Wal-Mart today just to look around at oil and get a few necessities and I come out and there's a cart right next to my bumper, and I pulled it away and sure enough, it hit my front bumper leaving a nice 3-inch-long gash in it. It wasn't just a paint blemish either, it actually left a long dent too. If the carts would've had a rubber piece on the corners it would've probably not done as much damage. Ugh, I guess that's what I get for trying to park far away, too. I was at the end of the parking lot and of course the one cart that rolls down the entire parking lot has to nail my bumper. [/rant]

I remember hitting one a few years back, when cutting through a lot, didn't do any damage though. I was only going around 5 mph, jumped out and grabbed the cart and stopped it from rolling away. Seems like they don't have enough corrals and even then people just leave 'em where they want.

That sucks, I always park in the back of the lot too. Once I saw a cart going about 5mph towards a car, dashed and got it before it hit, but i doubt anyone else would have done that. If theres any cars in the area where I parked, I usually flip them up, or put their wheels on the curb.

I means carts of course, last time I flipped a car I got in trouble for it

Step outside the Walmart store with your high powered binoculars and you'll see my truck parked at the very far side of the lot sitting all by itself.

I hate how lazy most lard bottom Americans have become. I am a very proud AMerican and dislike most of my fellow Americans. We have become LAZY as a country. We are for the most part all fat and out of shape. Walmart has more cart corrals then any other place on earth. Heaven forbid some lard arse should have to walk more then 3 feet to put the cart were it belongs. I happen to suffer from "Broken Ex-College Football Player Syndrome" My knee's are shot, I have an ankle that is shot and I am always in pain. I hurt twice as bad dureing long Michigan winters or when it rains. I either walk my cart to a cart coral or i walk it back up to the store. I often walk other peoples as well. Not like I am getting so much exercise in my day to day life that I need to woory about over traiing from putting my cart back were it belongs. Not only are most Americans LAZY they also do not care about their follow man at all since picking up after yourself is basic common and public courtesy and decency.

I do not hesistate to say something to someone when I see them doing that. I can not stand LAZY people!! Especialy when their actions damage other people private property.I offer to take other peoples carts when I am takeing mine back especialy if they are old, have little kids with them or the blue tag hanging from the mirror.

I think that in this way haveing grown up the first 20 years of my life in direct contact with the Army made me a bigot when it comes to Lazy people! I also do not like it when people do not think abouthow their actions affect everyone else in their comunity!

They should all have the carts that require a coin deposit. You don't have dollar coins down there, so maybe the quarter wouldn't be enough to convince people to return them, but some kid might collect them for the cash anyway.

25 cents?! Guys would be fighting for carts. Come on down to Oregon and you can find people making a "living" on nickel deposits for bottles. When I see carts strewn all over the place, my grocery store experiance says there cart pushers aren't keeping up. Holidays and such can be an exception, but other than that, their hiding out or they don't have enough people.

Slightly off-topic but this vacation is turning out to be quite the adventure for my front bumper. First it got nailed by a cart, now when I was backing out of my aunt's driveway with a steep curb ending, it banged the bottom of my front bumper and broke one of the clips, causing my bumper to hang on one side. What's next?!

And also, I blame the Wal-Mart more than the lazy people, because they only have maybe one cart return for the ENTIRE store out front, which is really far away from where I parked, and also because of having no rubber stoppers ANYWHERE on the cart. It would've prevented most if not all of the damage.

I agree with JohnBrowning's post. I personally like to walk the cart all the way back to the store (burns more calories) - and I try to pick up other carts if they're in the middle of the road.

It really ticks me off when people leave them in the middle of the road. Just this Sunday I got into my car and backed up and WHACK hit a cart that went flying into someone else's car. ?!?!?! Put the dang cart away people. Hate lazy people - really selfish.

Either way, the Wal-Mart where I USED to go (don't go to Wal-Mart anymore) in a lot of ~300 cars there are only 1-2 cart collections. Vons, a grocery store out here, has one in every row of cars (about 10+ for their parking lot).

A+ post JohnBrowning

ThirdeYe - Can we get any pictures of this thread starting bumper?

heh.

Whats next? Jumping a parking space cement block, backing up and completely tearing off your front bumper. I've seen it happen.

Sure when I get home i'll take some. I don't have access to a digital camera right now because i'm house sitting about 150 miles from home

I managed to rig the bumper back up, but i'm not sure how well it's going to hold so I'm going to head to the hardware store sometime before I leave and get some zip-ties just in case. And hey, don't jinx it!

Also remember to wash your hands after touching a shopping cart. And don't let any food purchases touch the car, always make sure they are wrapped to prevent contact. When the lab a the local hospital takes samples with swabs from shopping carts it's a always interesting seeing what they culture out. They find many things you would not want to eat. So, a shopping cart can be as bad for you as for your fenders.

That seems to be a favorite past time of the same people who don't put their carts in the corrals.

I usually try to park away from other cars, especially minivans (no offense to minivan drivers, but parking next to one is begging for paint swapping) when I can. At Wal-Mart I usually park by the Tire & Lube center. My truck already has scratches and dents from its previous life, but that does not mean I want any more of them.

One thing I hate is when people make a makeshift cart corral out of one or two parking spots. Parking is bad enough at most places around here...just take the cart to the corral the store put up. There is no need to make your own corral out of a perfectly good parking spot.

One thing I've seen people do at the local Costco is to put the cart on the grassy "islands" they have in the parking lot. They're not going anywhere that way.

hey of you dont like walmarts non rubberised carts maybe walmart should take them away completely and then you would see how you like carrying youre 200lbs of junk out to the car in the middle of the lot.

i think of shoppingcarts, any shopping cart as a courtisy (sic?) and am gratefull for one even with a bad wheel or 2.

I can get by with a cart with a gimpy alignment, or usually without a cart all together. When I buy groceries, I buy them as I need them. I don't wait and just make one trip. My nearest grocery store is only 10 minutes walking distance from my house, so it's no sweat. When I go to Wal-Mart, it's simply to buy oil/filters/clothes, and that's it. Never actually used a cart there before. At least the grocery store I go to has the rubber on the ends of the carts. I remember one time a cart rolled down from the store into a car in the handicapped spot, and it had the rubber stoppers on it and I pulled the cart away from their car (couldn't catch it in time) and saw that it didn't do any damage at all. That cart was going pretty fast too, probably a good 15-20 mph. I'd just think that with Wal-Mart being the largest store in America, they could at least afford to put rubber on their carts.
