I went to do an oil change and realized I only had two quarts of the Redline 5W-30. Lucky for me, however, I still had two quarts of trusty old Amsoil 5W-30. You can probably guess what I did.

I will definitley be doing an oil analysis when it's time.

Question is: what should I call it? Amsline or Redsoil?

I like Redsoil. The fact that Al "100k mile drain" Mutuzio plasters his name on everything in site, including his viagra vitamins, is annoying. Put the Redline first.

Might be a killer oil with that added Moly.

BTW, I use Amsoil. Just some humor. I get the Amsoil action news letter and product catalog. Guys, Amsoil key chains and mugs???

Gotta get a VOA on this stuff too.

This should be a very interesting experiment! How long are you going to run it for until you do the UOA?

Folks,

Can hardly wait to do the UOA on this. I plan on running the stuff between 4 and 5k miles. I'd love to do a voa on it as well but I'm now officially out of Amsoil.

Thanks for the comments,

Scotto

I had never considered doing an analysis on a Frankenstein Oil before ... but I really look forward to this one.

Yes, please go at least 4,000 miles before sampling/changing. Nearly any oil will survive a 3,000 mile interval with flying colors.

It would also be interesting to see if mixing these two messes with the TBN .... lowering it prematurely.

I think adding a quart of Redline to a synthetic oil like Amsoil or Mobil 1 may not be a bad idea. Gets you extra moly and esters. I realize that Lubrication engineers who manufacture Mobil 1/Amsoil know best-but, what the heck.

It never hurts to experiment as long as you use oil analysis to guide you. Obviously if someone mixed up a couple of different oils and then tried to go 15k blindly, it wouldn't be smart, but in this case he's going to stick with a shorter interval and UOA to see how it's doing.

Trying out different things helps us all learn!

Folks,

The UOA time should be around mid to late July by my calculations. I will note that the oil has a rather pleasant flower smell, probably due to the esters. Esters are what we smell when we sniff those pretty flowers.
