Decided to degrease my '99 Camry engine to see if that would deal with the burning oil smell when I stop at a light (might have finally fixed it). After a test drive I gave the engine bay one more look over, and found a cracked radiator--just starting to weep. Any reason to not just get a Denso? Rockauto has a few brands, all around $50-60, but a quick look on Amazon shows a Denso for $64 and free shipping, here by Wed.

Unfortunately, you can't get a Japan or US-made OEM Denso for your Camry anymore

The OEM from the dealer is now made in Taiwan. Here are some pictures, but this one is a better price.

Denso seems to have moved all aftermarket radiator production to China, even when Denso is the OE supplier and they make the OEM rad in a first-world country

Up until sometime last year, the aftermarket rads were made in Taiwan.

Nissens might be a good choice, too.

Denso is good even though they are made in China. They are made by Denso in China not for Denso in China, huge difference. Like Sanden and others they have their own factories so quality control is up to snuff. Nissens by some reports are getting sketchy.

I'd buy one locally at the parts store so you can get a replacement, same day, no hassle, anywhere in the country. Brand is irrelevant.

I've put two Denso's in our Camry. the first one, two years back, was made in Taiwan. the latest was made in China. they seem just fine. the reason for the second replacement has nothing to do with Denso, but more to do with my daughter....

Same.

I have compared side-by-side "name brand" radiators with the cheapest one available, and there were no discernable differences.

No radiator online shopping for me. Lifetime warranty buying local.

Bought a Carquest from Advance Auto, and used a 25% discount code. Price ended up being just a few dollars more than Amazon and basically the same as RockAuto for the very same Spectra Premium radiator plus I got a lifetime warranty.

Denso it is, thank you. [Autozone costs more, FWIW.] Amazon says it'll be delivered tomorrow, nice.

I think that Brand does matter for radiators . I saw some really bad ones when i worked at AAP. I would take them out of the box and they would be 'bent' left to right. the right side would be over an inch lower than the left.

Why were you taking them out of the box...returns?

The Carquest I just bought the other month was in a sealed box, and the box label was plainly marked as a Spectra Premium.

Can't remember how long ago it was--many years--, but I do remember Advance Auto use to sell Ready Rad.

where i work we sometimes have radiators bad out of the box, likely from mishandling/shipping damage. they aren't treated gently on the way to the store or at the store, and i don't even want to know how they are treated at our distribution center. some of the boxes look awful - if the box looks bad enough i usually open it in front of the customer to make sure it at least looks ok.

Pretty much this. When I wanted to change the radiator on my old 1999 Deville, I was thinking about ordering one from Amazon, but for ~$10 more, I could get a Carquest one from Advanced Auto. If it was defective, its much easier to return to a store than to ship a radiator.

The Carquest radiator worked great.

Like others said, I think they're all made in one place and repackaged.
