I was on a trip visiting a friend in CA’s Central Coast with a quick layover in LA. My parents offered to give me a ride back home from the airport versus an Uber. They still had an older Sienna, but they surprised me with a new to them CPO 2019 Lexus RX450h, and even more of a shock it was the F Sport AWD.
My dad handed me the keys and we drive off. This isn’t the refreshed 2020 model with CarPlay, it has the older Lexus Remote Touch system which I find more frustrating than even BMW’s original iDrive. It was familiar though to most things in the Toyota family. On the road, it drives like a Lexus - nothing to write home about, but the 20” wheels with Bridgestone rubber did feel a little skittish on some roads. It has power, I haven’t tested the “drive” modes. For a hybrid, it doesn’t feel thrifty or even overworked like a Prius. This is the first car in the family with ADAS, and due to the sight lines in the back the blind spot monitor was handy but I feel the rest of the systems were a little confusing and distracting, compared to EyeSight in a Subaru I’ve driven. The 360 degree camera monitor, again cool but to me, it’s a little distracting. It’s not active while the car is in motion thankfully. I’d prefer the same approach as Tesla there.
All in all, it’s generally a very nice car, but I’m not used to this whole ADAS thing just yet - some of the tech suite does have it’s worth. It’ll be a good car for my parents.
