Quick question: This "GC" you speak of, is it Castrol SYNTEC ?

Is the (made in Germany) GC you speak of, simply Castrol SYNTEC on the label, with "made in Germany " on the back?

I've seen Castrol Syntec, GTX and the blend, none that say made in Germany. Should I be looking on the SYNTEC bottles?

Yes, it's Syntec 0w30. That's the only grade you will find with "Made in Germany" on the back.

ok thanks much, it has really been bugging me , now I know

Goblins are afraid of elves and will not venture anywhere near the blending plant in the Black Forest...and goblins have no knowledge of tribology...they would need significant "outside" assistance...

Hi,
pscholte - how did you guess?

The blending plant was established there in 1934 - it was once based on the Ruhr and originally owned by Hr Manfred Schniklegruber. He holds the patent for green ester based lubricants I believe

The red coloured lubricants (Castrol Syntrax etc.)were orginally developed in Russia

Regards
Doug

Doug,

Cheers! Just a reminder, the Elves have cautioned against giving out too much information. They are so busy they can't answer technical questions via email or snail mail and they do not give blending plant tours. They do appreciate, however, your having chosen to take interest in their history. They consider you a "Shelff" (Southern Hemisphere elf friend). As you are knowledgeable of their history you probably also know this is quite an honor.

Looks like the little Elves's work is being outsourced as it appears GC is not going to be found anymore at AZ.

Even the Elves are having a hard time with globalization. The Koreans are much cheaper to hire.

I managed to snap this night-time pic of the GC production facility.

But, when I inquired about a possible tour of the GC production facility the next day, I encounted this nice gentleman. He appears to be American (in Germany), so it only adds more confusion about GC. And who knew Germany had deserts?

w2,

Afraid I am going to have to "call you" on this one. The picture cannot be genuine because the Elves have no need for conventional weapons for self protection...if you get my drift.

Hi,
pscholte - thank you for "encouraging" the Elves to be kind. It's made me instantly forget about SJ/CD 0w-30 SLX! Forever!!!

wavinwayne - could the picture have been taken near the Porsche factory? The four wheeled vehicle behind the "heavy" looks like an early and tired prototype Cayenne. Is it a later prototype in the background??

Pscholte,

I am well aware of the elves' long-standing (no pun intended) history of non-voilent security measures. However, I have received intelligence as of late which indicates that the elves consider the "GC composition inquisition" as a hostile action & have revised their security measures accordingly.

To that end, the armed security guard was a jolly lad, indeed. I was even given an escort from the facility. I couldn't help but ask the driver, "You do run GC in this thing, right?", to which the driver replied "Ich wußte nicht, daß jedes mögliches andere Öl bestand".
