Forgive me as I have been out of the loop for a few years. I remember reading on here that Gumout with Regane was one of the best fuel system cleaners that provided real results. Is this still the case? My cars have 45,000, 115,000 and 85,000 miles and I would like to clean up the fuel systems on them. Would one bottle treatment be enough or should I treat them a couple 3 times back to back tanks of gas?
Also is Techron also still a good choice? What other newer/better products have come along in the past 8 years? Thanks for any advice!

Yes, that's still a top product. Depending upon what kind of fuel you've been using and your driving habits, one may want to go back to back for a couple, as opposed to doubling up in one treatment. So, your idea is sound. Techron is also a good choice, as is Red Line SI-1.

Techron and Regane have the same active ingredient. I use the Regane now because I can get it cheaper. Every other month it seems Advance or AutoZone will run a deal on Regane, so I stock up then. Regane smoothed the idle on my GM 3.1 after the second tank of gas.

Appreciate the input and education guys! So what popular fuel system cleaners are not good and to be avoided?

I thought Lucas was a respected brand. Are their products considered snake oil and junk these days? Thanks!

Well, Lucas has some semi-decent detailing products. That's about as far as I'd go with their stuff.

I believe the high mileage stuff has a higher concentration of PEA and someone around here said something about extra friction modifiers or UCL or something like that. I buy either pretty much interchangeably when they're on sale, because you grab what's left.
