went to the local menards to pick up a couple filters in the QS-8A sizing and noticed the filters they now have are shorter then the previous ones, also noticed this in the QS-16's as well.

well i went ahead and bought 2 because they are still cheaper then the purolator's at 2.50 a piece.

so maybe i'll run them and cut them open to see why they are shorter.

anyone else come across this? makes me wonder the purolators will start to get shorter as well....hmmm.

Pennzoil and Quaker State branded filters have been shrunk to save materials, both are made by Honeywell now, IIRC, and have been for a while.

I saw a poster about this at my local quick lube.

^ are you sure about that?

I just read something on here yesterday that purolator makes the pennzoil filters now and have the quakerstates for awhile.

the the filters still look the same and everything, just shorter.

ah John slipped a post in before mine, thats what i thought

ok, well glad to know they are still purolator made.

They probably look shorter because for example, a Purolator 14459 for Honda applications is shorter than a Fram PH3593A for Honda applications, and maybe other applications are similar in comparison (i.e., Purolator is shorter than Fram for certain applications).

To the OP: Try comparing the Fram PH8A to Purolator's offering and see if the cans are different sizes, and you'll know the answer to this mystery.

well the purolator filters seem to the be the same size yet, just noticed the quakerstate branded ones are now shorter.

i dunno maybe we'll start to see the purolators shrink as well.
