Quaker state ultimate vs high mileage/defy

So I wouldn't gain anything from using synthetic if I'm going to change at 5k? The benefits of synthetic are running longer intervals only or would I get better protection even during a shorter interval?

I believe you would get better protection and it flows better in very cold temps
