I’d emailed Shell and asked the molybdenum ppm in the new Quaker State Full Synthetic 10W30. Here’s their response:

Thank you for contacting Shell Technical.

May we know why the molybdenum content is being asked? The typical molybdenum content will either be 260 ppm or 190 ppm for Quaker State Full Synthetic SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil (001G1653).
If the actual data is required/needed, then an unused sample should be sent in to a lab, like Shell LubeAnalyst and request that the molybdenum content be tested.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone seen this oil in stores yet? None of the stores here have it yet.

I wonder if the variance in moly is dependent on the blending of the base oils? Or perhaps a different type of moly?

Wny would the moly content matter when it is blended to meet the specs?
In totality, you’re right the spec is what matters. However, this is a forum dedicated to motor oil and is a side hobby for most people on here.

The question you posed is similar to going to a bird watching forum and asking the members why they spend time watching birds when often times it’s the same species of birds over and over again.

The answer is because it’s a hobby and it’s exciting. Exciting not knowing what you will see. With bird watching you see the same species of birds all the time but sometimes you witness something special and/or unusual. The same thing can be applied to motor oil. It’s a curiosity and that’s essentially why we all have hobbies.
