Hi, I currently have 2000 miles on my Honda 02 Si. I was going to wait to hit the 3k mark to do my first oil change with the Castro 5w-20 non-synth oil. But things have changed since my last post. I added too much oil last time. (My car is buring about 1/2 qt for every 900 miles. So I have been adding to keep up with the loss.) I was hoping for the oil to burn but, it looks like the oil buring has settled and stoped. I am about 1/2 qt above. I understand how bad it is to have TOO MUCH OIL. Can you please recomend what I should do. 1) Run the engine until it hits 3k miles and do the first oil change. 2) Immidiatly drain the oil (change oil now) with 2k miles on the meter. Since the engine is still breaking-in, I do not know which is the best step to take for my engine. Please advise.

Go underneath and drain 1/2 a qt. I wouldn't change that yet.. It's still the original "break in" oil in there. Personally I also wouldn't use 5w20. Depending on where you live and your driving habits I'd use 10w30 or 5w30.

Thank you very much. Small World. I used to live in Mississauga back in the late 70's to the mid 80's. Good old Floradale Public school. Best Regards

Hey, I've got an idea (and I too am from good ole Mississauga!) [Smile] Just change out the oil filter, but don't add fresh oil to it. This should get rid of a bit more oil, plus you'll have a fresh filter on there to catch the break in debris. PS, when did Castrol start making 5w20? I agree with Qwick_lude. Drain the 1/2 qt and leave the rest of the oil in for at least 3,000 miles. I would suggest not using 10w-30 though because of Hondas and Acuras recommendation to use 5w-30 if 5w-20 is not available. You will have lower oil consumption with 5w-30 than if you continue to use 5w-20. That little car must be a lot of fun!

Patman, good idea about the oil filter. Castrol has been making the 5w-20 oil for sale in the USA for at least 12 months now. I have a typical inspection data sheet for this oil that I got in 2001.

You're right! I had Castrol send me their tech data sheets a few months ago, and I just looked at them again and I see the 5w20! I never noticed that before. I wonder why they don't market it up here? The only 5w20 I see at Walmart and Canadian Tire is Pennzoil.

Chiakiplay, how do you like the new Si? My sister is looking at buying one. With 160 HP, that car must be pretty quick! -Joe

Hi Joee12. I got the car because I got my wife a Nissan Maxima a year ago, and I was only looking to spend 17k to replace my old car. I looking into the VW Golf GTi VR6, and the Nissan Spec-V. The VW was very nice (@200hp) but it was 6k over my budget. The Nissan has power but the interior was very cheap. The six speed gear was very tough. (not smooth p.s. they are redoing it for the 2003 model) After reading all the complaints about the new Si, I decided to take a look at it. Test drove it and was not totaly happy with the type of ride I was looking for. I went back two weeks later after reading all the Si forums. I told my wife that I will buy the car today if I can get it for 16.5k. The dealer had the mark-up @ 21k. I told that sales guy about the Si's current situation (sales) and all the data that I learned from the forums. He went to the back and brought the GM. Long story short. I got it for what the car was worth to me. The GM asked me why I know so much? Power of the internet!!! For 16+k this car is great. Does not have the torque or the power like the VR6 but for the price, its a great car. Side info. For the 2003 yr model they are going to bring in a blue color. They are also going to introduce a new greenish tint window. (heat absorber). They may also make an Si with the RSX-S engine in the next yr. (200hp). The 200 hp will run up to 23k. At that point I would just go for the WRX.

I also like Patman's idea. I would go with syn oil after the factory stuff does its job. Probably 5W-30 at first and then the 10W. There is very little difference in the cold properties of the 5W and 10W synthetic. Nice car. I considered it in 2001 along with the Protege. Like you it was for my wife. She liked the seats better on the Sentra and I liked the SR20DE 145HP engine (auto though [Frown] ). I may sell it next year to my daughter and since the 2L is not made any longer [Mad] I'll need to consider the Si.

You can also go to Walmart or an autoparts store and get an oil extractor or a siphon pump with the long thin tubing. Stick it down your dipstick shaft and siphon out 1/2 quart. Would only take about 1/2 hour. I bought my pump for less than 5 bucks at Walmart. It has come in handy because my VW dealer regularly overfills my oil.
