Puro tech filter, 2000 miles. Was on a recent purchase Buick Century. I changed the oil and filter right away and wanted to see how the engine was. Looks pretty decent. Will definitely extend some oil changes now. Extreme short tripper.

With some of those wide pleats, it wouldn't surprise me if tears formed with a longer run interval. Oil looks pretty dirty for just 2k miles accrued. Purolator has been off my "go to" filter list for some time now.

I used it for the short run. Won’t for a real interval. I ran Shell Rotella gas truck to see if it’d clean anything . Has a Fram ultra now.

Looks fine. Pleat spacing isn't a cause of failure.

The oil, when flowing thru the filter, is equally flowing across all accessible media. It doesn't work like a tornado targeting trailer parks. So, if the media would fail, it could fail anywhere, even in the area where the pleating looks really pretty.

Pretty much all the torn filters posted in this forum showed tears at the base of the widely spaced pleats. The wide spacing can cause the pleat to bend over during use. If the media is brittle (which some are), then the pleat is much more likely to tear. We've never seen torn media on tightly spaced pleats.
