I am still buying them, they seem to be fine. Except for my Toyotas.......For those, I use OEM....About the same price, and I believe they filter out smaller particles.
 
Yeah, for $20 less, I'd give it a try, no reports of tearing that I've seen. The pressure would need to be pretty great to cause that. Largest issues with air filters that I've seen is poor sealing around the frame as the plastic/rubber/foam degrades.
 
Be mindful of gasket thickness on Purolators. They are too thin to seal the air filter housing on my truck properly. The two halves of the housing move around, and when I ran one I saw evidence of unfiltered air getting past (dust on the top half of the housing). I was not pleased. I have checked ones on the shelf at stores since then, and same thin gasket.

Frams tend to have a thick gasket. I like that.

When in doubt, use OEM. But, I have never had a problem from any Fram air filter. I have never in my life purchased a Fram oil filter. I have purchased many Fram air filters.
