pumped old gas

I pumped the old gas from my boat that has not seen a lot of use in 2-3 years. It looked like iced tea in color. I am glad it was only a couple of gallons, not the 75 gallons the tank holds. I have since added another 1 1/2 gallons of fresh gas, let that sit overnight and will pump that and add fresh gas with Chemtool

So did it stink? New gas has some yellowish-orange color to it.

It did not smell much different than gas. Not that I am a expert on gas smell.

I poured in some fresh gas it it was almost colorless. So the old gas was way different in color.

How much gas in 75 gallon tank would one think is below the intake? The bow is tipped up somewhat.

I will keep that in mind. Its unlikely however. I expect Chemtool to do it job cleaning things.

I had a three year old 5 gallon can of ethanol gas I found in an old boat I had. I put it in my work truck (vortec 6.0) and it worked just fine. smelled nasty and looked very dark, but it burned it up.

My 1 1/2 gallon of flush gas came out looking like very watered down ice tea.

What do you think of replacing the screw on fuel filter with a new one and filling it with pure Chemtool or 50/50 gas/Chemtool?

Its a GM 5.7L engine (4 cycle).

I agree with car 54... I'd fill up with 93 gas or eth free, add some stabil marine or startron... turn key and punch it!!! change fuel filter... keep tank full at all times!!

In my experience, when gasoline goes, it smells completely different. I wouldn't worry about having a "nose" for gas, the stench when it turns to varnish is unique.

I do agree with getting 2-3 year old gas out of there before it ends up being pumped through everything.

You did note the tank is 75 gallons correct? A lot to keep filled up.

If indeed phase separation had occurred, it cannot be corrected by any means other than pumping the tank empty. The time spent pumping the tank empty and then doing a quick flush was minimal compared to the problems I would have to deal with if there was phase separation and I tried to run the engine
