I checked the air filter in my ecoboost 2 weekends ago. I thought snapped everything back into place when I was done. Check my oil yesterday and saw I forgot to clip the filter cover down. There is 3 little clips that snap it down. It only had 200 miles put on it during that time. Mostly interstate and city but has been dusty due to dry weather and harvest. The filter sits down in there so the air was still filtered but didn't have a good seal.

Oil has 3400 miles on it. Would you change it out or just let it go? Don't want excess silica causing extra wear.

Or am I just worrying too much?

Let it go.
I doubt that 200 miles of partially filtered air did any harm to the engine or the oil.
Things happen, and engines survive them.

I did almost the exact same thing. Worse though because it was completely unsealed on one side. I think it took 10k to work all the extra silicon out of the thing and get the wear back down to normal. I changed it as soon as I realized my mistake but I think that was also in error. I think I should have let it go another 500-1000 and let it pick up all the [censored] it ingested. The reason I think this is because it was delayed somehow. The UOA I took of the oil that was in it while it was open was completely normal. The one AFTER that had 40ppm Si along with the associated high wear rates.

No harm...no foul. Keep driving as if nothing happened.....

I bet that 75% of the cars I get in the shop have loose or missing clips as well as smashed filters that let dirt bypass. They still go 200k.

I even have a few customers that wont run air filters! One guy told me "It breathes the same air I do".
