Public car chargers that aren't

So I Googled up chargers near me and they list a bunch of public chargers that aren't easily accessible to the public. The closest to me is in the parking lot of an apartment complex that has signs all over the lot saying it is for residents only. Another is in a paid parking garage for a hotel. Some others are in a bank parking lot for customers of the bank. Another set is in a municipal parking lot with signs that say you can't use them during the day, but at night city cars are just left parked on the chargers. Is this typical?

I'd say it's regional. Here on L.I they're far and few near me. In fact I only saw one in a supermarket parking lot.

I'm not an EV hater. I applaud the apartment complex for having tenant charging access as many complexs probably don't. And it should be reserved for tenants only. The complex ownership can make their own rules on that however.

An apartment complex is not a gas station nor a public charging point for the EV owner that wants to charge his/her car while shopping at the mall next door if they are lacking public chargers.

Sure, but when traveling how do you find a charger you can actually use if you are not familiar with an area?
I think Tesla if not others have that programmed into the Nav? That way it can plan stops as part of a long trip.

There are 2 by me at the train station. At night my wife and I go for a walk near the river front and it usually has 1 electric scooter and an ice car parked there for hours. If I had a EV vehicle I’m out of luck …. Out of power.

At my work, my understanding is the charging is free, but it's not the fast charging (7 story parking garage). There is so little demand, that the bldg. management has taped over the signs saying EV only, and now they state anyone can park in the space.

Also, I have yet to see an executive reserved space, with a charger. Most executives wouldn't drive an EV.

PlugShare is a free app and it’s got details and reviews from other people so you can check that.
Thanks! OK--the apartment one says that parking is free while using the charger, then it is $2 per hour after you are fully charged. Useful info. Much better than what you get just using Google and there are more charging stations shown, though inevitably some are for customers of certain businesses, hotel guests, etc. The comments indicate lots of out of service chargers, slow charging, different pricing, etc. During the busy summer season in a tourist destination it would be a treasure hunt to find one that is both accessible and not in use. I can see that right now EV charging on the go requires lots of planning and a certain amount of luck. Things will improve, but you are a pioneer if you want to roam with an EV!

Long Island remote? I wish.
I had always thought if I could live anywhere, it would be on Long Island. Not feasible for me due to cost of living. But had many friends on the South Shore when in college....also used to go to the Right Track Inn in Freeport on weekends....
