PSA: Friction modifier is very stinky

The stuff is like they took the stink from gear lube and distilled it into something even more stinky. Motorcraft XL-3: Concentrated stink. Park your vehicle in front of your neighbors house when putting this in. Do not throw empty bottle into your trash bin.

On the upside, my helical diff no longer groans when turning from a stop.

Is that the stuff that they put in gear oil? I was under my RAV4 for its first ever replacement of transfer case oil and I was a bit hungover and man, it was not good. It smelled horrible.

Yup, it smells terrible. One of our service writers was being a jerk to me, so I got a bottle, took the cap and seal off and taped it under his desk.
Whenever I sell it to a costumer over the counter I joke how if they get any on their clothes the only way to get the smell out is to burn that article of clothing.

I also tell people that when they fill their diff, put in a 1/2qt or so of diff fluid, then add the modifier to that bottle. Some people try to add the modifier directly and hence the advice about burning clothes.
