Problems with a loose accelerator cable?

So I was looking under the hood for a place to mount a MG, and I noticed that my accelerator cable is loose. What problems could this cause?

I imagine you have to have some slack for temperature variations. Isn't there an adjustment anywhere?

Yeah, there is an adjustment. I am wondering how much slack is needed, and if it would be causing my cold shifting problem. When I first take off in D, it hangs until about 3K

is it frayed and stretching? If you cant reach full throttle, that may be the reason. I was puzzled about a drop in performance for a while, then the cable broke.

Mash the pedal to the floor, and see if it opens the throttle fully [may need a helper]. Slack is usually meaningless if the throttle is opening fully when you want it to.
