PP no longer A5/B5

There is a new PDS out there for PP 5W-30 (SN+, d1g2) and it no longer meets A5/B5-16. It only lists "A5" as the ACEA spec (which I don't think is allowed under the ACEA standard). I think this leaves Mobil 1 as the only big company that makes an oil that meets A5/B5 in conjunction with d1g2 and SN+.

A5/B5-16 is turning out to be a difficult specification to meet.

PDS (updated 1-29-2019):

Absolutely nothing. Any halfway-decent synthetic oil will meet it.

Besides, the second page in the PDS shows A5/B5.

Ok, so I'm confused.
Older version of specs here
https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/products/full-synthetic-motor-oils/pennzoil-platinum.html
says A5/B5, but only has ford wss-m2c946-a

the newer one here (for whatever reason not hosted on pennzoil website itself, but on shell.com instead)
https://www.shell-livedocs.com/data/published/en-US/f3cdb3bd-df6a-4c7d-b354-f5b475db32b7.pdf
says ACEA A5 only, but has both FORD WSS-M2C946-A and FORD WSS-M2C946-B1

I'm confused if anything has changed really or it's just a game of wording

Disagree. Have you read the tests/results an oil must pass to be stamped A5/B5? It's more stringent than A3/B4 but at a lower viscosity.

You have me there! I completely missed that. Appears "A5" was put in the wrong section (approvals section, which ACEA is not).

Moderator, feel free to place an edit on my first post or delete the thread all together. I'm blind it turns out.

As long as it is DEXOS for the Sonic , it is OK . The Buick does not call for DEXOS . Dad used QS5W-30 conventional in the Caprice . That is what I have used .

I know nothing about A5/B5 .

I have yet to see any version of EDGE with A5/B5. Even Castrol's website lists them as A1/B1.

Not true. Please review the ACEA specs for reference. ACEA is more difficult to achieve than API and ILSAC.

That's just Gokhan once again making baseless claims and trying to pretend that he know better than those with far more credibility than him. Ignore.

I looked at a couple of 5qt jugs of EDGE (black), and on the back they claim to meet A5/B5. That was just a couple days ago. I don't know what the date code was but they also met d1G2. But as is the case with A5/B5, it may not meet it anymore. Like M1 and Quaker State, it seems to come and go.

Any indications on shell-livedocs as to whether Ultra Platinum PDSs have been updated, particularly to indicate SN+/D1G2 specs? (I do not have an account and there is no link from which to establish one.)

No need for an account: http://www.epc.shell.com/default.asp?whichLang=EN

No d1g2 (or even d1g1 for that matter) or SN+ mentioned. Probably still old formula.

Seems like SOPUS is going to stay "old school" with that one, it seems to have something of a cult following so maybe that's a wise business decision...
