The previous two UOA's were both M1 0w-30 Fuel Economy Formula. The most recent M1 UOA was over the winter and the OLM went off because of time (6 mos.) rather than mileage (7500) and the short trips in cold weather may have contributed to the higher iron. This is my third 4.0 SOHC powered Ford, have had several UOA's on all of them, and PP always comes out the best.
The 4.0 SOHC is the last and only Ford engine that still calls for 5w-30.
What did you run during the fills previous to M1 when Iron was at 23-24?
If memory serves, the first one was PP 5w-30. Old 'puter has crashed since then and I don't have a paper copy that I could find. The next two were M1 0w-30. I had mostly been using PP but thought I'd try the M1 0w-30 and get a UOA on it. The M1 0w-30 seems to be okay for a 5000 mile OCI but doesn't like being pushed much farther on this engine.

I believe the 302 CID motor in the 90's Crown Victorias, Town Cars, and Grand Marquis still spec 5w-30. In addition, the EcoBoost v6 also specs 5w-30. And the 5.4L supercharged specs 5w-50, as the 'new' 5.8L likely will.

Actually 10K with M1 0-30 on these Ford engines are no problem at all. The higher iron number may be a one time spike thing.
Even 50PPM is still well within the normal range and nothing to be concerned with.

That's why I said "the last". Maybe I should've rephrased that and said "at the time it was built (2008) the 4.0 SOHC was the only Ford engine that spec'd 5w-30". Happy now?
