Powerstroke 6.0 problems

I'm 6 weeks shy of one year since my 2003 F550 6.0 Powerstroke broke down. I'm on my forth mechanic (first was an injection specialist (they had me buy two batteries and then gave up in two days of tests), then the Ford service (wanted to replace the computer and PCM when no power was getting to them), then one who found mud in the fuel tank (cleaned the tank and lines) and had me buy a new fuel pump, but kept it another 6 months looking for what else might be wrong. Now it has been 3 months at another who used to work for Ford. It will start and run at high speed, but not idle. Injectors have been cleaned, checked and rechecked.
I know it needs a DTRM, as I saw that someone has broken it. The mechanic that had it the longest said as long as I'm buying parts, I should also replace the oil temperature sensor, oil pressure switch, and the oil filter drain. But he said nothing about what these have to do with the problem or what is wrong with them.

What part does each play in this problem?

What should I really buy? Any suggestions?

what do you mean by a DTRM? i know FICMs, Fuel Injector Control Modules are a hot seller at my work, especially after the newer PCM logic that stresses the injectors more. also are you using BioDiesel? ford strongly recommends against it and that could have caused part of your gas tank issues, the lining tends to delaminate when you use BioDiesel.

is there any smoking? how much boost are you making, it should be around 27psi.

Let me see if I can get my Diesel mechanic buddy on here. He's very well versed in the International engines; he's been an International truck and coach mechanic for eight years.

See if he can shed some light on your VT365 situation.....

Was talking to him and he said:

1. Make sure your high your pressure oil pump pressure is within spec.

If it is, check MAF voltage (if applicable).

If that checks out, check fuel pressure.

What is being used as a scan tool?

As for scanners, the first was Snap-on. It showed a couple of sensor errors, the the sensors checked out ok. Then Ford used what they said was the only one that would show codes properly, bur they couldn't get any readings at all. I don't know the brands that have been used by the last two.
I'll get the pressure and voltage questions to the mechanic today.

Modern fuel injection systems are really fun to troubleshoot. I'd get a factory manual or online account and follow the diagnostics. If you're unwilling to do so I'd get rid of the vehicle as the engine is one of Ford's biggest disasters, literally, and you don't seem to be able to find decent mechanics.

Ford's electronics for that engine; primarily the ECM fiasco with them trying to make the engine "quiet", was the big issue. Years prior to '05 seemed to be the most effected.

The engine in International trim; the VT365, was just fine in terms of electronics issues.... Though they have had other issues with them.

The new 6.4L, the MaxxForce 7, is essentially a bored-out version of the VT365.

Do you have access to a Genisys scan tool?

I don't know what the Ford takes by the Cummins in my Dodge seems to be OBDII (I think it is), where a budget code reader can be found on sale at Sears for $60 to $70.

It's OBDII, but something like a Genisys will give you a LOT more information than the generic tools. I have witnessed the difference first-hand on many occasions.

Any comments on this part of the question?

I'm in the states and what to get whatever I really need and get this truck on the road.

Where is the fuel pressure being read from? If that's from the high-pressure pump, I think you may have found your problem........
