Power steering fluid

If a truck uses transmission fluid for the power steering fluid. Merton V....Can it be changed out with a good quality normal fluid?

What does the truck call for? Many vehicles call for transmission fluid in their PS pumps.

Mercon V is good, cheap, and readily available. Use it if that's what your truck takes.

In most cases, yes and I've done so in many vehicles.

Either or should be fine. Just be sure to get all the old fluid out as it could foam.

Calls for Mercon V but thought something with a conditioner in it would help the older seals out a bit until I can change the pump
