July 15, 2007 - Craftsman mower with Honda engine. Out/In = Mobil 1 10w-30. Mobil 1 has a "different" smell on re-start. Same smell with the Husky/Honda too.

I have a 2-year old Honda self propelled mower and except for the first fill of Honda oil have used an approximate 0w-30 mash-up of fresh Mobil 1 oil (0w-40, 0w-30, 0w-20). My M1 0w-30 mix is getting down to about a quart now. I have a bunch of Delvac 15w-40 from my diesel car days and was hoping to 50/50 mix the 0w-30 mix with some 15w-40 Delvac. Grass cutting season is here and I need to change the oil before my first cut coming up soon. I can't see that this would be a problem for the Honda but thought I'd pass it by you experts first. The 0w-30 did make for easy cold fall day starts though.

I'll update this with the oil change once I get it done.

Drained last year’s oil from my lawnmower today - It’s some sort of cheap generic mower with a Briggs and Stratton.

Out - Motomaster 5w30
In - Motomaster 15w40

There’s a Canadian Tire right up the street and each of these fills was a result of buying the cheapest quart of oil available at the store. The leftover gets dumped into the Tercel, which is leaking quite a bit and will until I get around to redoing the oil pan gasket later this spring.

Out: A conglomeration of 5W-30 Castrol GTX, Pennzoil and Mobil 1.

1997 Honda HRS216PDA
Out: Briggs & Stratton small engine oil
In: Same + about 4 oz Rislone Ring Seal

The engine runs well but I have an old bottle of the ring seal lying around. I doubt it will make any difference, positive or negative, but I don't have anything else to use it in! That stuff was really thick, like STP.

Did a service on my grandfather's 1999 Scag STHM 3 wheel mower. Has just under 1000 hours on the 22hp V-Twin Kohler Command, 61" deck. He has owned it since new and uses it to mow around 8 acres.

Changed the engine oil with Rotella T4 15w40, AC-Delco PF2210 filter, changed the hydro oil with Valvoline PB 15w40, Scag hydro filter. Also sharpened blades, changed air/fuel filters, greased, and replaced spark plugs. I replaced two idler pulleys on the deck as well, they were starting to make some noise.

This thing is really fast and fun to drive, makes quick work of his large field and yard full of trees.

I changed the oil last weekend using 50/50 M1 0w-30 mix and 50% Delvac 15W-40. Never had a chance to start the engine with the mix but will this weekend for yard mowing session #2 of the year.

I bought a new air filter but ended up just cleaning the old filter, it wasn't that dirty. Also, this is the first season that I have started to use 100% gasoline rather than the E10 that is common around here.
