Mine would be
1. Change oil on Corvette, then, driving over 7 quarts of oil in the drain pan..
2. Not looking for the GASKET, stuck to filter housing

And probably a couple i have forgot....

Mine was jamming the filter cover on my first car with the Iron Duke 2.5. Not even a cheater bar applied by a technician at the local Goodyear could free it. I ran that filter for well over 10k miles and several more oil changes until the car blew a head gasket.

Next was changing the oil on my fiancee's old Escort. 3 hours, much swearing, and several cust/bruises later, it was finally done. Ford could have picked a better place for the filters on those 1.9 engines...

Never done anything stupid so far. :)

I did have a friend pour fresh oil into his engine only to see oil creeping up on his foot. He forgot to put the drain plug back in.

Well, it wasnt a oil change. But flushing the transmission on my ford ranger I couldnt get the 1/2" tubing to fit so I was using 5/8" ID
It works fine for about 15seconds then backed up and sprayed straight up like a shower all over my serpentine belt and pulleys.

That took alot of simple green, elbow grease, and a new belt to fix.

Had a family member got two years before changing oil. I almost couldn't get the filter off. Hammer and screw driver method on a Lexus

Oil Filter gasket was left on the car. Installed the new filter over it and I had a small mess to clean up after I fixed that.

Not really an oil change story. But I changed a timing belt on a 626 2.0 once and decided I'd run it a bit before reinstalling the valve cover. Its a cast cover that has "spray" nozzles in it. I didn't notice where the tiny port lined up on the head and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to see a stream of oil less than an 1/8" in diameter going straight up! But wondered [censored] all this [censored] raining down was. ;-) Anyhow shut it off quick and buttoned it back up took it to the wash and pretended it never happened. I'll tell you one thing that little 2.0 must have a pretty decent oil pump.

I have done that a few times... Usually in a hurry to go somewhere.

Changing oil a few weeks ago, excited to put the 0w30 Redline in. Drained the oil, forgot to bring long new K&N oil filter over at our other house. I had to wait 1-hour and 30 minutes just to finish changin oil.My girlfriend finally stopped by and asked how I was doing,I said:

"Can you please go get that new K&N oil filter,so I can finish changing oil " Longest oil change to date!

I left the oil change bucket under the car and forgot about it, backed off the ramps and the bottom of the car caught the bucket and dumped it all over the garage floor. and I suddenly had nearly 5 quarts of oil to clean up. Glad I had cat litter.

I was replacing a FRAM Extended Guard with a Purolator Pure One. I'm sure this isn't necessarily FRAM specific but it was kind of a pain to get the FRAM off in the first place leading me to not be so thorough after that.

One time I was doing a major engine repair to a car. the last thing I did was drained the oil replaced the drain plug and put the new filter on and started the car up. The car was noisy has as could be in the garage and I shut it down. I forgot to refill with new oil.

While changing the oil in my Dakota for the first time, I became fascinated with every part of the underbelly of my truck. So fascinated that I forgot to pull the plug out of the plastic drain pan. When I finally reached the point of popping the drain plug on my truck, I proceeded to watch as the oil flowed out of my truck and I soon noticed the oil level on top of the drain pan wasn't going down. I thought "Aw [censored]!" as I plunged my hand into the rather hot oil digging the plug out. I got it out just in time! Though I was covered up to my elbow in oil due to the oil taking the path out of my truck, straight down my elbow/forearm, and into the drain pan.

I agreed to change the tranny fluid in my sisters Civic a few X-mas's back. Looked up where the plug and everything was-looked like a piece of cake. Found the drain plug, but couldn't seem to find an Allen wrench that fit. After a half hour of messing around, I finally turned the wheels and could now see clear as day it was just a standard 3/8 square drive...got better after that though. Filled it up, but for the life of me, couldn't get a consistant reading on the dipstick. By now it's getting late and she still has a two hour drive home, and she's getting a bit upset. Finally dig out the owners manual and discover the trans fluid is checked with the engine OFF. She bought me the manaul for her car for the following Xmas...

Mine wouldn't be the dumbest oil change but a lack of oil change. I bought a 83 Tercel about 6 years ago for about $500. It was my first used car. I took it to Jiffy Lube when i got it and in 1 1/2 years i never changed the oil. Just kept adding oil. I got it with 130K miles and the engine died at about 170K miles. Since then i learned alot more about cars.

The worst i've done with oil changes was not putting the oil catch pan in the right spot, so it ended up on the garage floor.

Hi,
In the mid 1960s SAAB replaced their great three cylinder two cycle engine with the German Ford Taunus V4 engine

Looking from below only one drain plug was visible. Service people removed plug and once it had drained they replaced it. And then they filled the engine with around 4 litres of oil!

They had actually drained the gearbox and overfilled the engine!!! So there were many engine and gearbox failures througout Scandinavia (and elsewhere no doubt) from what was a simple task

Forgetting to replace the drain plug before adding 4liters of new oil. (the only oil I had on hand)
