Post a photo of your oil on dipstick (with miles)

It ain't the size of your dipstick, it's how you work it.

Here is Dry VS Wet on 2002 Honda Reflex 250CC, liquid-cooled scooter. Oil is Mobil1 Racing 4T 10W-40, 900 miles on that fill. 28,571.4 miles on the scooter.

Couldn't really capture the oil level, it's windy as all hell, but you can see it's pretty dark. Jeep is on an uphill slope, so it shows it being down a bit, but I'll have to check on level ground. OLM is at 38%, oil has roughly 8,000km on it (4,971 miles), oil is HPL Super Car 0W-40.

That oil is doing some cleaning eh?

Looks way over full.
I’d even venture to say it looks like it’s been drained once and filled twice

If you're looking at the first photo.. look at the bottom right. There is a clean break in the oil, about the same distance maybe a smidgen more of the top hole to the notch. That "notch" is a "Maximum full when hot" notation; I didn't know that at first, either. It was pointed out to me. So while it may be overfull.. what is happening, is, one bank is an external leak (under pressure, just to make it all fun) from a head gasket, where they like to leak, and, golly, that's HPL oil being pushed out. Infuriating. The HPL has presently been depleted and that problem will be remedied soon.

The bottom shots are when you have to tilt your dipstick back and forth to get a good shot.

Care to correct your statement? It's nowhere near twice the oil capacity overfull.

(Though.. checking oil on a hot engine.. usually not the most accurate. Checking cold, like first thing in the morning if possible, is preferable. Unless your engine says to do it differently..)

It looks to be around the red arrow area. Check it cold, should be at the top hole (by the "F" stamp) from what you're describing.

Over 900 miles on the HPL oil. (I wish I could let it achieve a clean break. This is after wipe, then reinsert. Angles and moving dipstick etc.) Checked first thing in the morning cold. With Flash and without. HPL No VII 5W-30

So rather than going to the Doctor for a blood test do you just pull out a small pen knife and go on color?
Yes. Bright Red is good. Darkish, not so good.
True story; We had a Major that during pre-flights would ask me "D_____, did you bleed on it?" If I said yes, he would say it was good enough for him.

I was using Mobil Super 5k for long time when it was cheap at Rural King. Now it’s expensive so I don’t use it much anymore.
Mine has been hanging out in my garage for about 5 or 6 years, I got it on rebate for about 6 or 7 bucks for a 5 quart jug, back before everything went through the roof. I have way more oil than I probably should, but it was all purchased on rebate. Sometimes I still wander down the oil aisle, then realize I've already got way more than I know what to do with 😄
