Post a photo of your oil on dipstick (with miles)

How many miles on the vehicle? What year?
2023, 10746 miles. I’m super anal about my break-in procedure and flushing metal out. The truck received 4 OCI’s starting at 250 miles. This fill was at 7k. I wish I took a picture of how nasty the factory fill was it only 250 miles. Smelled to high heaven of fuel as well. M1 holds up so much better. I also run a performance tune and I am not easy on the engine.

Pic after oil change at 19902 miles. It was driven about 25 miles before the pic.

The photo is from June 20th of '23 at https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/engine-oil-fill-hole-pics.357961/page-5#post-6530584 ( scroll down ) . Looks like more residue has accumulated since then . :(

That would definitely bug the crap out of me. Using what I know to be good FS oils and getting more buildup. The usual questions. burn any? pcv done? Normal drives short? Any similar experience on Hyundai-Forums?

My sons fiancé has a '21 Tucson. She drives to work everyday. I changed oil 4 months ago. It now has 1100 miles on the oil. That stuff never gets hot. The old stuff at 12 months 5-6k looked and smelled worse. I changed the OCI monitor to 3k/6 months from 6k/12 months.

Maybe you just need more frequent changes? Maybe try a qt of EC30 next change? Maybe run a round of full HPL with a filter change?

What do the filters look like if you cut them?

Does burn a little oil on occasion , has strong smell of gas . Have always used full synthetics 5w-20 + 5w-30 such as P.P. , P.U.P. , SHELL Gas Truck , and CASTROL Edge w/ Titanium . Top Tier gas ( 89 avg. octane ) for most fills and used TECHRON 10 ounce bottle 3 or 4 (?) times . Driving is mostly above 40 and around 40 percent city . There's a few steep hills as well . Don't have a heavy foot . Has over 47,000 miles and O.C.s' average 4,900 miles . I plan to check the P.C.V. and will likely use P.U.P. 5w-20 or 5w-30 for upcoming O.C..

I will have to admit that direct injection seems like a step backwards. Way too dirty and restricts airflow on the intake valve.
All your savings go out the window with earlier oil changes and fuel injection cleaners.
And also intake valve deposits blasting/cleaning if required, which isn't cheap if a professional does it. Some DI engines get horrible intake valve deposits.

2016 Toyota Avalon 140,000 miles. 10,000 miles on Amsoil Signature Series 5W30. This is my 4th 10,000 mile interval on this car in row. Might keep the Amsoil in there till 15,000 miles. Very little makeup oil (filter changed at 6,000).

EFI is is probably better than GDI in most situations. Idle / low / mid loads. Perhaps high loads GDI has advantage.

Fuel spray upstream of intake port probably results in better atomized fuel and air mixture for a cleaner burn.
