Poll: What's your OCI, Mobil 1 users?

I'm on the Amkeer program...change oil every April & Oct, need it or not.

Honda Oddyssey M1 0W-20 & wix/napa gold filter

Chevy Impala M1 5W-30 & Acdelco filter.

Probably 5K- 7.5K miles per interval, but I'd run it to 10K if I drove that much in 6 months!

tpi - i've used mobil 1 quite a bit over the years and base OCI loosely on pan capacity and fuel economy:

I have thought and thought and thought and I can't figure out what MPG has to do with oil change intervals.

Help me out please.

Long, steady highway runs will give you a higher MPG (and are less tough on the oil). Likewise, lots of short trips, idling, etc. will yeild a lower MPG.

So, MPG is an indication of the 'type' of miles you are driving and gives you an idea of how much the oil is getting beat up.

97 F-150 4.6L Mobil 1 10W-30 Every 5,000 miles/ 3 Months.

64 Karmann Ghia 1600CC dual port. Mobil 1 15W-50 every month.

93 Volvo 940 2.3L Mobil 1 15W-50 5,000 miles/ 3 Months.

Mustang GT is a different story...Red Line Synthetic all the way!!!

2003 Blazer LS 4x4 4-Door w/ 4.3l Vortec
18,000 miles on it
Just changed to Mobil 1 5w-30
9,000 mile intervals
Using AC Delco oil filters, trying no filter changes this time.

Previous vehicle
2000 S-10 LS 4x4 Ext Cab w/ 4.3l Vortec
Changed to M1 5w30 @ 10,000 miles,
then 10k mile intervals until lease was done.
changed filter every 5,000 miles & topped off oil (never used any)

Almost all driving is stop & go city driving, 0-45 mph, fast accel & braking, lots of towing in the winter (two snowmobiles on open aluminum trailer) averaged 14-16 mpg in both vehicles.

02' F150 5.4L 4X4

4 months or 3000-3500 miles, whichever comes first. I HONESTLY can't get it into my head about extending the change. I drive 90% severe service - about 7 miles to work and back. Around 4 months my truck starts "renting space" in my head and I'm off to the local Peps to change the oil.

I know, I know.....something up there isn't firing right. At least I'm not doing it every 3 months, hey, I'm saving about $30./yr.

2004 Honda Element
M1 0W-20 7K OCI

2005 Subaru Outback's
M1 5W-30 EP 10K OCI
5K filter swap and oil top up

1996 Chevrolet Corsica
M1 5W-30 EP 7K OCI

1996 Subaru Legacy
M1 10W-30 EP 7K OCI

Every 3k mi / 5k km or 6 months, whichever comes first.

2001 VW Passat 1.8T, mostly city driving.

M1 0W-40 for the duration of the 10-year powertrain warranty, strongly considering M1 5W-40 thereafter.

All these vehicles with Mobil 1 EP 5W-30 going one year or 15k miles, whichever comes first: 1997 Maxima SE, 2002 Protege5, 2001 Miata SE.

Next oil change I'm switching a 1989 Accord and 1996 Astro over.

One more OCI with Honda 5W-20 and I'm dropping Redline 5W-20 in the 2005 Ody and will change oil when the OLM hits 0%.

I used Mpbil 1 from the time it came out until I retired a few years ago. I used it in many different vehicles successfully, always remembering that it was advertised initially as a 25,000 mile or once a year oil change oil. So that is what I always did for more than 20 years, with no problems and no noticeable engine wear. I usually put 18,000 to 20,000 miles a year on my vehicles; on my 1986 Thunderbird I put 140,000 miles in 7 years, changing the M1 every January. It was still as quiet as new when I traded it.

I notice that most of the above M1 users are changing using OCI's more appropriate for dino oils. At the intervals being mentioned, dino will make any engine last over 200,000 miles. I am now retired, driving about 6000 miles a year, and changing oil twice a year using dino. It would be a waste to use M1 for this low mileage. What I wonder is why they say this new M1 is only good for 15,000 miles?

2000 Toyoya 4Runner 3.4L V6 - 10K miles.
1993 Nissan Pathfinder 3.0L V6 - We just switched it to M1 and I'll do 5K for the first run and go up from there once I see some UOA's. I'm guessing it'll end up about 7500 miles.
