Polar Vortex Coming!

Everyone sure has gotten spoiled because of the last few mild winters. You would think the world is coming to an end over this. Use common sense, prepare and we will all survive to talk about it later.

Nope at 70 years old I have been through many extreme weather events...in the 50s..60s..70s..80s..90s..2000 through 2025..
That doesn’t change the reality here.

If a city has the infrastructure in place to deal with the weather then it’s fine. If they don’t, then it’s a problem. Why is that such a difficult concept for you to grasp? 🙄

all we can do is prepare the best we can and hold on. if there is something that breaks or you're missing something you will know next time.

All I can do is cover the crowns. They survive.

The lowest they are predicting here is 26°F. Historically it's been much, much colder. We had 1°F 2-3 years back.
My grape plants are covered with straw, held in place with chicken wire and 6 inches of snow. It’s going to be 0 F this weekend. Fingers crossed.

It’s hard for people to just “deal with it” when their city isn’t prepared for it. Northern cities have salt trucks and snow removal on the ready for the winter. But cities that don’t usually get this kind of weather can be brought to a standstill. Nobody even has the right tires for the conditions. So to say “deal with it” is actually a pretty stupid thing to say
Whilst I was heading to the beach yesterday - wound up behind state trucks spraying the causeway (CaCl2 ?) - later saw more bridges they hit …
I know some places still use sand on bridges - but they don’t carry huge volumes of salt down here …

the problem in the south is we get this cold wet weather, and it warms up a bit and then refreezes creating a ice sheet over all the roads. it shuts down everything for a couple days and if you don't have what you need at the house you are s o l.

I don’t need to hide, because I am used to snow and cold weather. My point is that not every city can deal with it. I can see you are another clueless one 🤦‍♂️
Very few cities can deal with every type of adversity that is thrown in their way..
I think you should hide. You sure don't act like you are used to it....:D

I am definitely used to it. I just think it’s a stupid thing to tell people to just “deal with it” when it’s out of their control. If their city doesn’t plow the streets or put salt down, please tell me how those residents are just going to deal with it? They need to get to work, but yet their roads will be dangerous and you can’t expect them to just drop $1000 on snow tires at a moment’s notice either.

I hope all of you who use fuel oil for heating are also running DPFs and SCRs and DEF injection. If not we are probably going to get more of this weird weather that we have been having for the last 69 years.

If you liked the “ Arctic Pipeline” last week, you’re going to love the “ Polar Vortex “ later this week and next. Freezing temps are forecast to reach Houston. We’re going to get it west of the Canadian Rockies as well this time. Seattle will probably freeze. It’s supposed to be 19 F in Washington DC the morning of the inauguration. 🥶🥶
The meteorologists in Colorado have gone from a trace of snow to no snow yesterday to 4-10" by tomorrow evening in three days.

As you say it, "being out of one's control", you prepare and deal with it. You are not going to change it. You sound like someone who has been coddled all your life.

Anything else is just being a whiner. Stop being a whiner....

Hate to admit this….

But even in my area where there is a decent amount of of snow removal trucks etc etc…,

We had a 1-2 inch snowstorm in January 2000 that created 800 accidents in the Hampton Roads area… Caused massive back ups and delays etc etc etc…

And we have way, way more equipment than say Atlanta Georgia or New Orleans or Montgomery Alabama.

I believe there is a good, good chance of snow and ice along the Gulf coast northeast through the Atlantic coast next week..

This pattern is similar to the one from January 2018 when winter weather hit in northern Florida into Georgia and Isle of Palm SC had 5 inches of snow there…
