How does staying home and watching a nifty TV compare to going out and cruising around for something to do? Or flying to Utah to ski for the weekend? Let's hear it for couch potatoes.

I am kind of partial to this planet, and I'd prefer not to risk screwing it up just so people can buy a bunch of throw away consumer [censored] that will be tossed in a landfill 5 years from now or waste energy...
But I guess if your idea of long term thinking is measured in your life time and not your grandchildrens then carry on sticking your head in the sand and hoping that our large increases in greenhouse gases won't do much. No on knows for sure but its a big risk to take.

I think that should have been done like 100 yrs ago. Heck of a lot more absurd/wasteful than using a plasma, IMO.

come to think of that, ANY event which uses a ridiculous amount of energy for celebrating stuff like that should go with it. Times square NYE tree included.
