Notice To Purchasers of Pioneer/Elite DVD Players
Pioneer has provisionally settled nationwide class action lawsuits alleging compatibility/playability problems with Pioneer DVD Players. According to our records, the Pioneer DVD Player that you registered with us (DV-393-S) is an affected model.
This means that you may be a "Class Member" and may be entitled to a benefit under the settlement. To learn more, please review the attached official Notice of Settlement And Hearing (the "Notice"). The Notice was authorized by a California court.

( a LOT of models are inclueded dating back to early 1998 even, so some of you might have one of those)see bottom of post for the link to the complete statement issued regarding the settlement.

I never got a firmware for my dvd player, and it's fine, playing anything, so i don't know why mine is affected. I'll check later and see if they issue a firmware upgrade for mine, which you get if your model has one issued.

Interesting. I've never heard of any incompatibility issues either. My parents have one of those, but I've already upgraded it with an aftermarket firmware so that they can have the Polish menu, plus other little things like large text fonts on divx movies.

Pioneer's first generation DVD players had problems with recognizing disks after a few hours of play. They would still play CD's, but would not recognize a DVD when one was inserted. I have one of those early Pioneer models, and it is picky about what DVD's it will play. I think I paid $225 for mine at Sam's Club, and it was a display model. I know I registered mine with the class action lawsuit, but I haven't heard anything yet. Since new DVD players are so cheap, I wouldn't expect much out of a class action settlement. Like all these things, the only ones that will get rich are the lawyers!
