There was another hole just as big as this on the other side of the engine.

I didn't get a good shot of the holes in the oil pan. I am impressed with how clean it was inside. Apparently, my strict regimen of "whatever was on hand" worked.

Whadja do? Miss a shift? Rev it to 10,000 rpm?
 
This was the engine out of my 2004 Ion, ~134,000 miles. OCI was by the OLM, usually about 7500 miles.
 
Was this done by trying to compress coolant?

When the engine blows up does the OLM go to zero percent?

Did I miss something? Tell us how this happened and were you driving down the road when it came apart?
