Thanks for that, eljefino! I drive a 2002 Cavalier w/same motor (92,000 miles), but it doesn't leak at all, so I have nor reason yet to remove the cover. Without an oil fill hole in the valvecover, there's no way to even get a glimpse of the shape of the valvetrain w/o removing the cover!

Gotta love the "design" GM did of the sewing machines in our cavaliers. Mine's a '00 with 103,000 on it, but have to make an appointment yet for the vc gasket replacement ($ issues, of course).

Do it yourself, its easy as cake and cheap. And Valvoline Maxlife seems to quiet the sewing machine. At least for me.

1991 Toyota Corolla 4AFE Engine at 183k miles. I bought it at 155k, so I can't claim all of the credit for the good maintenance. 155k-now has been Valvoline Maxlife and more recently, Havoline. Before that the oil was changed at the dealer with bulk dino by the previous owner.

O'E,

Mine doesn't leak yet, but if it did, i would try to do the repair myself, and see what the valvetrain looked like...
As for the noise, I've got Havoline 5W-30 (non-DS) in mine right now, and it has quieted the cold piston slap this car has quite a bit. It's still there, just not as loud as before. Good stuff!

1997 Dodge Intrepid, blown head gaskets, 139500 miles, just purchased so no clue who changed the oil or when.

This picture is from when I took the top end of the motor apart. I did not get a picture of it cleaned up during reassembly.

Also figured it was time to change the plugs. This is what cylinder #1 plug looked like at 112,3xx miles.

99 Prizm 124k last used Rotella 5w-40 and AAP 3600 filter. This is after 2 ARX Treatments2 short OCIs and Chemtool flush.

Slalom, that is exactly what every motor serviced in my garage with dino ends up looking like. Clean!

Clean? I have a 92 Corolla with only 120k and the valve train and valve cover are spotless compared to that. Mine doesn't have teh dark brown oil residue. Next time I open her up I'll take a pic.

5k or twice a year. Now that it's not the primary family car, it will be done only 5k weather permitting.

P.S. did the photos work ?
