A question that I have for people is what do they mean when they are posting a percent oxidation number? Do they know what method their lab is using to come up with this number?

They do if they use our kit, I usually correlate the value to others % used value. It's a meaningless yardstick unless you know the scale and any built in buffer space.

Does that mean if my oil analysis shows 40% from your kit, that it may show a different percentage at another lab Terry?

40% on our test correlated to 20% roughly on a OAI or Schaeffers test. Your report should have shwon that PATMAN.

Patman your oxidation was 80 on the Dyson Analysis scale, 40% to compare to OAI or Schaeffers. Just looked at your result to confirm.

This is one of the points that I have noticed on some of the boards that I try to frequent. People really don't seem to know what their oil analysis report is telling them. For instance if they get back a 10% oxidation and they change their oil because of that. People really need to ask more questions of their labs in my opinion.

Terry what method do you use for determining oxidation? is it FT-IR?

Joel, Nicolet omnic integra FT-IR. FT-IR= Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis for the non lab guys and gals.
