people need to learn backroads

Growing up in the sticks, I prefer the back roads. I have off-road lights on my Jeep and can usually spot deer and avoid them. Crazy drivers who are texting and doing 50 mph are a bit harder to avoid and cause more damage. I know the deer don't have insurance, but then again a lot of the welfare queens around here don't either.

I enjoy highways more. When they are moving. Bumper to bumper crawling, not so much; but I'm not sure the typical stoplight dash is any better--worse if anything. The constant up/down in speed limits is a nuisance too. As a bicyclist I'd just as soon see less traffic on backroads!

I've thought of taking sideroads to get to work, but it would take more time and add congestion to the various neighborhoods along the way.

Where I live the growth has been so rapid and extreme that any back road you try has already been "discovered" by the masses. Alas, it ain't "the country" anymore!
