This was, what I think a severe service run due to approx 50/50 Hwy/City including some mild to moderate off roading. I planned on doing 4-5K mile OCI regardless of the type of driving. Even though BS states the viscosity is low (for 10W30), it still about 4 points higher than 5W30 which is what GM recommends (D1G3). Got Kirkland 5W30 in their now, but feel comfortable using my stash of 10W30. Your thoughts?

Viscosity is not bad but I wonder if Ultra would do better and have you ride out the full 5k. Results look good though & perhaps others with your engine will input their opinion. Phosphorus is quite low though. I don't see too many opting for 10w-30 these days but it's still stocked on the shelves and a great option if weather permits. Also, you might want to blur out your personal info?

10W30 and 5W30 are both in the same viscosity range. Both are 30 grade oils, which can be anywhere between 9.3 and <12.5 centistokes. The difference is mainly in cold temp performance. 5W performs well at lower temperatures than 10W. Otherwise, there should be very little difference in viscosity between a typical 5W and 10W.

I think for SoCal, either 5W30 or 10W30 are equally fine. I'd feel comfortable using up the stash before moving on.

Since BS does not use gas chromatography, they can't really know how much fuel is in the oil. It's a guess based on a perceived 400F flashpoint and a chart that tells them 400 = <0.5% fuel.

If you REALLY want to know about that ending viscosity, you'd need to get an oil analysis of the virgin oil, then a used analysis of the same oil, preferably from the same jug. And use a lab with gas chromatography. It could be that Pennzoil Platinum 10W30 starts at close to 9.73 cSt.

Report is good. I have same engine with nearly same mileage. My results were all highway for the Amsoil run. Your report is good.

Nice report. Another reason I will never use Blcksttone.
