Oil Changed? Yes Yes
Just got my results for the second change interval on this car, this is the first UOA I have on the SP-III which is the oil I am hoping to use for extended drain intervals once the warranty is up so I'm planning to get a few baseline UOAs on the shorter factory change intervals. The copper seems a little high to me - should I worry?

i have the same engine in my Jetta , its really a good compromise between power and mpg . i have 50,000 miles and it runs perfect .

Thanks - I'll give the copper another change interval and see how it's doing. I know often times new parts have some residual copper that'll show up on the analysis I guess I just thought it would all wash out in the first change interval. I'm happy with all the other numbers though. My driving is mostly highway but I'm a believer in the Italian tune-up so I make sure to wind it up to 6000RPM at least a couple times a day.

Your first change with the Pentosin seems an eerily similar formula to the factory fill. If you have an oil cooler that is brazed, that might be the copper.

The copper is trending down with good overall metal wear rates, and shear stable. Is the recommended factory extended service intervals basing on service indicator around 30,000 km ?

I have this same engine, and my results aren't that different. Wear metals were single digit by the 3rd oil change. Question though: without TBN, how will you know if you can extend the interval? With a direct injection turbo engine, I'm not sure how much more you'll really be able to extend the OCI over the factory recommendation with a low-saps 504/507 rated oil.

Oil Changed? Yes Yes Yes Yes
A quick update, I've had a couple samples since the last time I posted.

Looks nice. Any oil consumption between changes? Did you fill in an additional bor additive or did pentosin/fuchs add bor to their formula?

I always fill just over the full line (I tend to overshoot by a mm or two) and by the end of the oil change interval it's at about 25% of the way from low to full. I'd say ~0.75L of loss during the oil change interval. Drive cycle is about 75% highway 25% city, 130km/day round-trip. I make sure to wind it right up to the limiter at least once a day and there are some long hills where I have 30ish seconds of WOT in 5th gear. The boron is really confusing because along side the ZG5744 sample I also sent in a virgin sample for analysis and it came back showing ~500ppm of boron. They called me up confused, asking if I was absolutely sure that it was the same oil I had used because it made no sense to them. I bought 3 5L jugs at the same time, the engine takes ~6-6.5L of oil so it's always 1 jug plus a bit from another... I think one of my jugs has higher boron and I can't explain why.

Just to confirm, yes SP-III is a 5W30 oil. It's the weight recommended by both the owner's manual and by the dealership so I went with it. Seems like it's working out okay!

Makes sense though. Seeing you're from Canada where your winters are brutal compared to Texas, and your summers are probably quite mild (compared to Texas) it would make sense they'd put you on a slightly thinner oil. EDIT: Wait, your manual says to use the pentosin or the 5w30? I just wanna see if our manuals are different.

If I recall correctly, my manual simply said to use 5W30 502 rated. Dealership did confirm that 504 would be even better but still recommends 5W30. As for being in Canada, we do have some cold in the winter but where I live summer temperatures are typically around 30*C during the day, with some days up into the 40*C range. It's not Texas hot, but it's certainly hot enough that I was seriously worried about using a 5W30 in the summer.

The grade won't make any difference within the same approval since they require a minimum HTHS. You can fight over the winter rating a little but that's about it.
