Why? Its overkill and most racing oils do not fair well in long OCI or even moderate and its expensive and not good for the catalytic converter.Just MPO.

It's less expensive than M1, and the manufaturer states that it is fine for regular OEM oil change intervals...the 5w30 is friction modified as well.
 
what does the engine even spec for? 0w20 or 5w20 ? I wouldn't use it period. I know they make good products but this is a daily driver RAV4.When he has to replace the cat to the tune of 1000-1500.00 because of the zinc go right ahead.It specs for 0w20

Owners manual call 5w30 to 20w-50 there is a toyota TSB call 0w-20 or 5w-20.Currently running TGMO 0w-20.The only problem is TGOM only comes in 4L tins so I need two tins each time because i need 4.3L to do an oil change.Penrite 5w30 S65 for 5L jug.
 
amsoil app guide says 0w20. I know you guys are limited to oils in your area but being a 2012 and a toyo I would use 0w20 myself. And that zinc could cause you problems later I would find something else.JMPO I am sure someone will chime in because I don't know whats really available in your area.I would use 5w20 max that penrite is [censored] good oil but I don't think its right for two reasons in your app.

How do you "know" this ?

because one or two prominent BITOGers have made up and repeated ad nauseum a story that the OEMs specify other than 20 weight because the bullock trains stocked the country with 50s ?

How many cats failed on SL ?
 
I meant limited to brands not viscosity the 5w30 doesn't bother me so much its the zinc that does.If the engine is burning oil or going to 5w30 isn't going to help.I understand the friction modifiers and the reasoning behind that but I don't think the zinc level is going to be healthy on the cat long term ..
 
I don't see the point using that oil in a daily driver. M1 maybe expensive but Penrite make many other cheaper suitable alternatives.

Penrite can recommend it all they like too as they know a non-functional cat is not a problem in Australia.

I have a Rav4 2L running on Penrite Enviro GF-5 5w30. People think I'm nuts by the way. I'll do a used oil analysis for the [censored] of it at 10K.
