2005 (really 04) Caravan, 2.4L 4 cyl.
Pennzoil YB 5w30 Make up oil: 12oz. @ 3K
Miles on Oil: 4,000 (VS. 3K ON FIRST 3)
Miles on Unit:79,000

Warranty over, upped OCI from 3K (Chrysler severe service) to 4K. Winter OCI (Jan. to April). 75% short trips, wife idles to pre-warm. Looking for fuel dilution, etc..

BLACKSTONE COMMENTS: There was a mild rise in iron after the longer oil run......Running this oil 4,000 miles did not harm your engine at all....you could likely run 5,000 miles without any significant changes to engine wear. The oil's TBN was 1.9, so there was still some active additive left for a longer oil run. Oil viscosity was in the 5W/20 range again.

MY COMMENTS: My concern about severe short trip driving in winter were unfounded. Nothing alarming here. Happy camper.

Yeah this is boring (which is good for you and your engine!). I would really go 5k oci.

I ran Pennzoil Yellow bottle 5w30 for one oci in my car and it also sheared to a 5w20 but my wear numbers were stellar so thinning out does nothing when it comes to wear metals!!

In my case it is the motor. The 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE that's in my engine runs really hot so it does a number on the oil. That is the reason why 1MZ-FE engines had the sludge problem. Hot engines and 7500 mile OCI's Toyota recommended led to sludge because the heat from the engine oxidized the oil.
