After reading so much on this thread I have decided that I would either do 100% conventional on my next oil change or a mix of synthetic and conventional instead of just synthetic since I only do 5k oci's. I picked the oils above and am hoping that you guys would give me your opinion regardless of the price even though they're pretty close. I have a 04 Civic so I would be using 5w-20. From what I have read it seems like Hondas like a lot of Moly. And I have a oil capacity of 3.5 quarts so if I decide to mix some M1 into the mix it would be 2.5 quarts
synthetic and 1 quart M1. Will the quart of M1 keep the engine cleaner than using conventional by itself? Thanks in advance.

*edit: I forgot to add Castrol GTX to the list

That's what it looks like to me, too. It seems that folks here generally think the Exxon SuperFlo is the Honda oil at the dealer. It certainly is good oil. I think it also has more moly than the M1, but don't quote me on that; I guess I could check the VOAs before I say that.

If you're not running it hard a lot, I'd probably say just stick with the Exxon. All your choices are good ones, and whichever you are comfortable with will serve you well.

My experience says that M1 might keep things a little cleaner inside, depending upon usage. For mixing oils/types, I think RedLine is the best choice as a mixer.

If I (like you) were to stay with conventional oil on my 2004 Honda Civic, I would go with EM Superflo 5w20. Just a hard oil to top especially at the price of 1 per quart. When you add in localized sales and or OEM rebates of 4.20 per 12 quarts, just killer! The moly is one of the highest around.

I am going after the factory fill, at 10,000 mile OCI to Mobil One 0w20 and when my supply goes out at the 100,000 mile mark. I will use the new Mobil One 5w20.

Why mix? An even bigger waste of time, effort and money especially since you will be doing 5,000 mile OCI's!! The factory recommendation is at 10,000 miles (EM Superflo/Honda oil as standard). So you are really changing the oil at the halfway mark already. This interval in effect at the very least doubles (2x's) the cost per mile lubricated.

Sure.....1 oz to 1 quart of Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment.....All the dino's you list are excellent...I really like the Havoline line these days...the line between Synthetics and dino's is getting blurry.....the Valvoline Oil Treatment will give you and your Honda a nice shot of ZDDP.....it's a good and very inexpensive way to boost your dino.....

not sure if its out yet but Schaeffers 5w-20 would be a great choice,,,Havoline/Chevron also stands out also as being good,,,BL

How about this alternative to quelch your engine cleanliness fears: Lube Control. With the recomended treatment rate, you'd get approximetally 20 oil changes from a gallon bottle. That would be roughly half the cost of adding 1 quart of synthetic every oil change, and you'd probably end up with a cleaner engine.
