Pennzoil Truck, SUV, Minivan 5w-20

Haven't seen much discussion on this oil. Pennz is marketing it as a synthetic blend and for the increased demands of heavier, hard working vehicles. Is there anything really special about this oil compared to their regular 5w-20 Purebase dino? Also wondering about Valvoline Durablend 5w-20. Yesterday, while at Autozone I noticed the bottle states not only GF3 but also GF4 and something called ACEA-1? THe Durablend 5w-20 was $2.88 / qt.

ACEA-1 is the lowest standard for European oil. I think it is about the same as our API SL rating GOOD GRIEF! That stuff is even thinner than Exxon! 8.2 cSt @ 100C Only 5W-20 I can think of that is thinner is Torco SR-1. Gene

If I remember right, three more oils are thinner - Havoline 5w20 - 8.0 cst @100C Chevron Supreme - 8.0 cst @100C Citgo Supergard 5w20 - 7.8 cst @ 100C

Hmmm... they are thin. Chevron - 8.0 Citgo - 8.1 Havoline - 8.3 However I am not sure that we are looking at the same formulations. Gene

Thin oils AKA xw20 work. Now we have preferences on how thin??? 8.5 MC is good, but 8.0 Havoline is not cause its too thin??? btw: I tried torco sr1 in my honda. It wasn't my cup of tea, but it worked well, just as well as (subjective of course) as m1 0w20. Personally , I think it depends on the vehicle which to use. My ford 4.2: the thinner the better, the honda seems to run best on 8.8 to 9.0 weight 20 (@100 c).
