pennzoil syn blend + oil

Last week went to a local Big Lots store. I saw some Pennzoil syn blend + oil. I got 31 qts total of 5w30 and 5w20. My friend said that oil was old and not to buy it. He does not read the BITOG site. I told him this oil was ok to use and it was a great price. I plan to get more for my stash. Any opinions on who is right here..

Is is SJ or SL and what cost?

It is the SL type, had 2004 on label, and was 1.79. The bottle looked just like the Pennzoil syn blend truck and suv oil at Wal-mart for 2.59 this week.

I do like the SL since it has more zinc and phosphorus than the new SM oils. (The SM is probably fine having other additives to compensate--time will tell.) $1.79 for a blend is a good price and SL can't be too old as I believe SL began only a few years ago. Maybe you can find some info on this oil by searching this forum, and the VOA and UOAs.
