WOULD THE LONG LIFE 15W-40 BE A GOOD CHOICE FOR A 2002 CHEVROLET S-10 PICKUP WITH A VORTEC 2.2L ENGINE BE A GOOD CHOICE. I LIVE IN SOUTHWESTERN PA. I ASK BECAUSE I AM INTERESTED IN EXTENDED DRAIN INTERVALS? I HAVE A 1999 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER WITH A 2.4L ENGINE AND THE DEALER USES A 15W-40 MOTOR OIL(MOPAR BRAND)AND IT RUNS FINE ALL YEAR LONG. I AM FULLY AWARE OF THE WARRANTY ISSUES BUT THE VAN CALLS FOR THE SAME VISCOSITY AND THEY STILL USE THE 15W-40!

I would use oil analysis to tell me if extended drains are possible.
My recommendation is Dyson Analysis
That is the only way to be sure with your particular engine, brand and viscosity of oil, and driving style.

First let me say I don't think 15W40 is the right viscosity to use in this application. I would prefer to see you use 10W30. However, if you are going to use a 15W40 I believe the Long Life 15W40 is a very good oil that would handle extended drains.

dont know about that ive had 1540 penzoil in my 90 ford van for 1200 miles and already it is jet black
1990 Ford van with how many miles on it? I ran Delvac 1 in my turbo before an Auto-Rx clean and went black real quick like I've never seen. Doesn't mean the oils no good though.
