Pennzoil Synthetic, SL, 5w-20
03 Honda Accord EX, manual 5 speed with 2.4L 4 cylinders VTEC DOHC engine.
BlackStone Labs.

Oil had 6,514 miles, 32 weeks, 203 miles/week
Makeup oil: 0.
Car had 42,785 miles, 2 years (to the day).

Honda recommends 5w-20 oil at 10k miles or 1 year for "normal" driving and at 5k miles or 6 months for "severe" driving for my 4 cylinders engine. My driving is stilled considered "normal" by Honda's definition even with me driving less miles.

Left numbers are from Pennzoil Dino 5w20 VOA, dated Januarys 2003.
Second numbers are from M1 0w20 VOA, dated April 2003.
Third numbers are from Pennzoil Synthetic SL 5w20 VOA, dated June 2003.

Forth numbers are from Pennzoil Dino 5w20 UOA with 6.8k miles on oil, dated Oct 2003.
Fifth number are from M1 0w20 UOA with 7k miles on oil dated Jan 2004.
Sixth number are from M1 0w20 UOA with 7.6k miles on oil dated Apr 2004.
Seventh number are from Pennzoil Dino 5w20 UOA with 7.2k miles on oil dated Sep 2004.

Right numbers are this Pennzoil Synthetic SL 5w20 UOA.

All comments welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

Can't beat that. Looks to me that regardless of what the motivating factor is behind the 20wt oils, Honda made sure they did their homework testing them.

I can't help but agree with Buster. the Xw/20 oils are showing good numbers on a regular basis.

Oh no

! 5W-20 "killing" another engine

. Looks real good. But if you're going to stick to ~7,000 OCI's you might as well save money and use the Penzoil 5W-20 dino. It gave comparable results to the synthetic version.

You recommend 7K with dino and one-time filter? How long have been doing this?

Just curious! Does your oil turn black within days of last OCI? Is it not true that you can achieve both good UOAs and sludge - all at the same time?

If you are witnessing a clean dipstick 1K into a 7K OCI with no sludge issues after many 7K OCIs with dino, then synthetics are a waste of money... in my opinion.

honda does recommend 10k OCI with dino

for 10k, I would be more inclined to use syn.

No. The oil stay light for a long time making it hard to see on the dip stick. The oil is a little darker but also clear when I change it, if you know what I mean. All of the oil changes been like this. Dino and syn.

Any comments on the insolubles only being 0.2? I've been using M1-104 filters from the same batch for the last 3 oil changes.

Very nice results and consistent as well. I don't see much difference between the synthetics (M1 and Pennzoil) vs. the Pennzoil dino. Unless you just like using the synthetic....this engine runs well with the dino at 7K OCIs. Do you notice any difference in the way the car performs with syn vs. dino (gas mileage, cold cranking, etc.)?

It seems that I have syn mostly in winter and dino in the summer. My mileage always goes down in the winter due to cold, snow tires, gas formula. I've also change from driving 566 miles a week to driving 203 miles week so this also affected my mileage and I'm sure is harder on the oil.

I'll check my log but I believe the mileage varies from 25 mpg to 34 mpg depending on how I'm driving, not the oil. I don't notice any other changes. So, it looks like dino is the same as syn for this car but it is hard to tell because of the seasons I have the oil in.

I have the new Pennzoil SM Platinum 5w20 in now.
