Maybe Fe high for such low miles (??)

I don't get the P number. Is this an SL oil?

Yeah, thats what I thought as well... I never redline it, I maybe hit 5k rpms for a very short time, and I usually shift at 3000 (redline is 6500+). I cant imagine 3000 rpms is too high to normaly make a shift point, as thats where the car starts to move quick. It is an SH/SJ oil, that I found in a 2.5gal bottle at wal-mart. I figured its sat there for a while, nobody will buy it and eventually itll go to waste. Maybe its expired?

SL Phos max limit does not pertain to 15W-40, only to xW-20/30 oils.

my guess is that the 15W-40 doesn't volatilise as much and the thinner grades (or crrry past rings and guides), and therefore the rate of introduction of the additive to the converter is less.

Then they cann allow a higher percentage, and still remain cat safe.

JHZR2, iron does look a little high.

What oil(s) have you used previously?

Lead (and pretty much everything else) looks nice 'n low.

hmmm, before this I had some 10w-40 syntec in for the winter (used it before finding this site). before that rotella T 15w-40, before that mobil1 15w-50, and before that I didnt own the car, but supposedly it was castrol oil, visc unknown.

JMH

P.S. Now Im trying 20w-50 to compare at similar drain time. After that Im going to hopefullyuse M1 15w-50 all the time, as I think its usable in the winter in my climate... hopefully the 20 and the m1 will give better #s

Hang on a sec. You replaced the filter, kept the oil, topped it off so that this is a new filter with only 500 miles on it? Is that right? If so, you need to TRASH that filter. Pretty high iron.

Wow, ok I didn't know that. Thanks! So if a xW-40 or xW-50 has SL marked, only the performance portions apply not the formulation controls?

Phos max, Flash point min, and Gelation index do not apply for non xW-20/30 SL oils.
