Looking for an oil recommendation for my 1990 Ski Nautique. Previous owner (1 owner boat) used 10w-30 Castrol synthetic with no problems. I can continue to use this as it is readily available in Canada. GC is cheaper and is available too. However I have a shelf full of Esso XD-3 0-30 synthetic which as many know is comparible to GC and half the cost. Any issues switching to XD-3? Boat/Engine is like new, 450 hrs. Mainly used for waterskiing.

I have the same engine in my Moomba but a 1992. The manual says straight 40 above 50 deg. And 30 weight from 30-50. I am now using Rotella 15w-40 and have no problems. I used to used straight 30 for the past few years before the switch. I have the same pressures as the 30w with the 15w-40. How are your pressures?

use the xd-3 0-30 HDEO rated oil with lots of ZDDP required by that flat tappet cam
the xd-3 has NO VI improvers which makes it even more viscosity breakdown resistant than a straight 30w mineral oil

or one of the NMMA rated oils
